India's £10 billion plan for new warships and submarines may force Britain to axe financial aid to India

India is a poor country where millions go hungry every night. But it is still going ahead with a whooping £10 billion plan to induct new planes and submarines to flex its muscles.

The plan will bolster Indian navy with seven frigates and six nuclear submarines. This goes in line with the new but aggressive Indian prime minister who wants to have a strong military for two-front war with Pakistan and China.

However, the British MPs think that the Indian lavish spending should call for a 'stop dolling tax payers' money to feed India's hungry mouths.

Tory MP Peter Bone said last night: ‘This is why we should not be giving any aid to India. It was not aid that brought India out of poverty but trade. Aid is just a sticking plaster.’ Andrew Rosindell, Tory MP for Romford, said: ‘It is clear that India is becoming a wealthy country if it is able to spend such a colossal amount on its military.'

China's $20 billion loan offer to Africa may discomfort West

Chinese President Hu Jintao on Thursday offered $20 billion in loans to African countries over the next three years, boosting a relationship that has been criticized by the West and given Beijing growing access to the resource-rich continent. 

The pledge is likely to boost China's good relations with Africa, a supplier of oil and raw materials like copper and uranium to the world's most populous country and second-largest economy. 

But the loans could add to discomfort in the West, which criticises China for overlooking human rights abuses in its business dealings with Africa, especially in Beijing's desire to feed its booming resource-hungry economy.

£1.6 billion aid to India is about to be scrapped

BRITAIN’S taxpayer-funded handouts to India are almost certain to cease within three years after a public outcry led by the Daily Express.

The International Development Secretary, Andrew Mitchell, said Britain was “walking the last mile” and added: “We won’t be there for ever”, hinting that the hundreds of millions of pounds a year aid to the former colony will end by 2015.

The move is a victory for the Daily Express, which has been pressing for an end to all foreign aid. But MPs and tax campaigners last night called for Britain’s £1.6billion total aid to India to end immediately.
