Indian Chief of Defence Staff aboard crashed Indian helicopter

Indian Express reports that Helicopter carrying Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat crashes in Tamil Nadu. There are no news of fatalities as yet.

The IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter was airborne from Sulur for Wellington and was carrying 14 persons on board, including CDS Bipin Rawat, his wife, and personal and security staff,

Sources said that at least three injured people from the crash have been taken to a nearby hospital, but their identities are not confirmed yet. The crash took place in the Nilgiris, shortly after the Mi-series chopper took off from the army base in Sulur.

British Airways Resumes Flights to Lahore after Four Decades

It was a great day in thee history of aviation, British Airways and Pakistan that British Airways resumed its operation to Lahore, Pakistan after four decades. 

The British Airways flight BA-259 took of from Heathrow airport London with two hundred and fourteen passengers  and touched down at Allama Iqbal International Airport in the morning of 12 October.

To celebrate the landmark occasion, a special ceremony was held in the CIP lounge of Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore and a cake was cut. Christian Turner, the British high commissioner to Pakistan also attended.

Speaking on the occasion, the British High Commissioner remarked: “The first-ever British Airways flights to Lahore is a sign of confidence in Pakistan, and the deepening ties between our two countries. I hope it will open up even more opportunities for business links, people-to-people ties, and tourism.”

British Airways resumes flight operations to Pakistan - After a Decade

3rd June was a great day for Pakistan as British Airways resumed its flight operations to Pakistan after almost 11 years of suspension.

A British Airways’ Boeing 787 Dreamliner with 240 passengers on board, landed at Islamabad International Airport on 3rd June morning. The flight came nonstop from Heathrow, London.

The British flag carrier will operate thrice a week flights between Heathrow and Islamabad.

It may be added that soon Air France will also begin its operations to Pakistan

US military grounds entire F-35 fleet

US military has temporarily grounded the entire fleet of its expensive state of the art F-35 fighter jets. Others using the jet have also suspended their flights.

The decision comes after a crash of F-35 in South Carolina last month. The crash in South Carolina involved an F-35B, which is able to land vertically and costs around $100m (£75m).

The F-35 is the largest and most expensive weapons programme of its type in the world and it is expected that the for many decades in future, F-35s would be the mainstay of the US and its export sales.

Chaos at Heathrow as British airways system crashes

System crash at London's Heathrow airport has created chaos amongst tourists and holidaymakers as flights are delayed and closed.

As per Daily Mail, technical faults have caused unprecedented delays at London's to biggest airports of Heathrow and Gatwick. It is feared that all out going flights will be delayed specially to Athens, Milan, Malta, Glasgow and Dubrovnik.

Britsh Airways in the meanwhile has has admitted on Twitter it is dealing with issues with its check-in system. It is also reported that some passengers were stuck on planes on the runway as they waited for the issue to be resolved.

As per latest reports the system has sine been restored which remained dead for 20 minutes and operations have started as normal.

Indian Air Force military plane missing since 22 July

BBC reports an Indian Air Force military plane is missing since 22 July and there have been no clues as to what happened to it.

Reportedly, an Indian Air Force Antonov-32, a Russian made aircraft, took off from Chennai and was headed for Port Blair,  in the eastern archipelago of Andaman and Nicobar. The plane lost its contact when flying at an altitude of 23,000 feet and was some 270 kilometers away from its taking off base.

The aircraft is said to have descended "very fast" from its cruising height and vanished from the radar. There was no distress call from the cockpit. At the time of disappearance, the aircraft was on the fringes of blind spot, a radar-less coverage area of some 150-200 nautical miles.

EgyptAir flight MS-804 from Paris to Cairo believed to have crashed into the Mediterranean

Although unconfirmed till filing this report, but it is very likely that an EgyptAir flight MS-804 from Paris to Cairo may have crashed into the Mediterranean. There were 66 on board.

At the time of disappearance from radar, the aircraft was flying at 37,000 feet. Reports suggest there was no distress signal, no mechanical problems and skies were clear.

The breakdown of the nationalities on board were: 30 Egyptians, 15 French, one British, one Belgian, one Iraqi, one Kuwaiti, one Saudi Arabian, one Chadian, one Portuguese, and one Algerian and one Canadian, reports the Daily Mail.

Turkey shoots down Russian SU-24 violating Turkish airspace

Turkey is reported to have shot down a Russian SU-24 aircraft allegedly violating its air space. The shooting has been done by an F-16 of the Turkish army near the Syrian border.

Sources close to president confirm nationality of flaming Su-24 fighter seen spiralling into the ground in Syria.

The Turkish army claims that the jet violated Turkish airspace and ignored warnings. The two pilots ejected from plane, which went down on the Syrian side.

However, Russia's Ministry of Defence claims the jet was in Syrian airspace, and was shot down from the ground.

India and Malaysia to set up a SU-30 support forum

India and Malaysia have decided to set up a Sukhoi-30 forum that would provide base for exchanging information on operations and maintenance support of the Russian built SU-30 fighter aircraft.

Both countries operate the Russian fighter and India has already trained Malaysian pilots in the past.

The Indian Air Force operates Su-30 MKI family of jets while Malaysian Air Force has the MKM variant of the jets.

Pak-China joint production JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft at Dubai Airshow

JF-17 Thunder, the Pakistan-China jointly developed fighter aircraft has been put on display at the Dubai Air Show. 

The Pakistan Air Chief attending the airshow has been quoted as saying that the participation of Pakistan Air Force in this airshow is a matter of great pride for us and many countries in general and Islamic countries in particular have shown interest in the JF-17 Thunder aircraft.

The Dubai Air Show was inaugurated by Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai and Prime Minister of UAE.

Vulcan flies its farewell flight over Britain

So that is it for the large delta winged Royal Air Force (RAF) Vulcan. Commissioned into the British Air Force in 1960, this cold era huge aircraft easily recognisable by its delta wings flies its farewell flights over Britain for the Brits to see it fro the last time.

Although the aircraft was in service with the Royal Air Force till 1993, a major rehaul programme made it flew in 2007. But it was decided that it will fly for the last time later this month following its £75,000 tour of Britain this weekend.

The farewell flight was was piloted by Martin Withers, who broke the record for the world's longest bombing mission in April 1982.

Even airplanes as big as Airbus A380 are helpless against Nature

No matter how big machines, ships or airplanes man may build, they are simple helpless against the winds of Nature - leaving man entirely at the mercy of Nature.

An Emirtes Airlines mighty Airbus A380 has been filmed while landing at the Dusseldorf International Airport, Germany in very strong cross winds. And the huge bird is seen drifting to the right of the runway, finding it extremely difficult to land. I t was the superior piloting skills of the pilots that finally brought the plane back to landing line.

British Airways passenger aircraft engine catches fire midair

In a bizarre incident of ground crew sheer negligence, a British Airways passenger aircraft narrowly escaped a disaster as 'covers' of both the engines blew off and one of them caught fire.

The flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Heathrow with one engine damaged and the other on fire. The emergency landing caused the plane to scatter chunks of metal, some weighing up to 37kg, across the runway.

It was later found out that the ehausted engineers worked on the wrong aircraft and thus failed to remove the covers of the engines before the aircraft took off. One of the BA technicians had worked 70 hours over seven consecutive days and nights and was on the second of two 12-hour overtime night shifts.

The incident occurred on Flight A319 from London to Oslo in May 2013, published in Daily Mail on 14 July 2015

Solar Impulse lands in Nanjing, China

The solar powered fuel-free Solar Impulse has landed in Nanjing, China after leg 6 of its journey around the world.

The last leg from Chongqing (China) to Nanjing China measuring 1,241 km took the craft 17 hours and 22 minutes to complete.

Already, the Solar Impulse has set two world records for manned solar-powered flight on its journey so far:

The first was for the longest distance covered on a single trip - that of 1,468km between Muscat, Oman, and Ahmedabad, India.

The second was for a ground speed of 117 knots (216km/h; 135mph), which was achieved during the leg into Mandalay, Myanmar, from Varanasi, India.

South Korean plane skids off the runway at Hiroshima airport

A South Korean Asiana Airlines Airbus 320 skidded off the runway while landing at the Hiroshima airport, Japan.

The plane skidded of the runway and came to rest on the edge of the green area around the side of the runway. 74 passengers and seven crew members used emergency chutes to evacuate with 20 passengers having minor injuries.

Transport ministry officials said a plane wheel may have clipped a radio facility near the runway on landing. The structure, known as the localiser, helps aircraft find the landing strip. A fragment was found on the plane's left wheel.

Aviation disaster averted after Emirates and Etihad planes come within 25 seconds of collision over Indian Airspace

Aviation disaster are often caused by misjudgment of the ground controller and a many a times countless lives have been lost due to mid-air collisions of the aircraft.

A similar grave situation occurred over the Arabian Sea in the Indian airspace when Emirates and Etihad planes come within 25 seconds of collision on Monday.

Neither the Dubai carrier nor Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways would say how close the two planes came to each other. However a Resolution Advisory (RA) was given to both planes, which means the distance between the two aircraft could have resulted in a collision within 25 seconds, reports the Daily Mail.

Since the incident occured in the Indian air space, Indian officials are now investigating the incident.

Three French Olympic stars filming reality TV survival show 'Dropped' killed in helicopter crash

In a tragic accident, three French Olympic stars filming the famous reality TV show 'Dropped' are reported killed in a midair helicopter crash in Argentina.

The French Olmyic stars included Swimmer Camille Muffat, boxer Alexis Vastine and sailor Florence Arthuad. Two Argentine helicopter pilots were also killed during midair collision beside five other French nationals. Two of the dead competed at London 2012.

Argentinian authorities said it was still unclear what caused the accident in the rugged western province of La Rioja near the Andes mountains.

Davis Monthan Air Base - the graveyard of US warplanes

Ever wondered where large fleets of US Air Force disappear as new aircraft replace the oldies? Well there is only place the outdated, phased out and old aircraft go" The Davis Monthan Air Base located approximately five miles south-southeast of downtown Tucson, Arizona.

A recent Google Earth photos of high resolution have been shared which shows an are4a of some 2,600 acres in the hot Arizona desert where several generations of US military aircraft are parket. The aircraft include mighty Starfortresses, the nuclear capable aircraft, the F-14 Tomcat fighters that were the mainstay of US Air Force during the Vietnam war.

Why keep these aircraft there afterall? Well it is the humidity free enviornment that keeps the airframes from rusting. While some aircraft die and fade away, the engines, munitions, wiring and electronics of some of the aircraft are recycled to help lower the cost of maintaining the current-day fleet.

The U.S. government even allows the military in other countries to buy parts and even planes from the site.

Flying Bum to take off next year

World's biggest aerial machine, dubbed as the Flying Bum, is all set to take off next year, reports Daily Mail.

The 302 feet long Flying Bum is far larger than the Airbus A-380 (239.5 ft) and Russian Antonov An-225 (276 ft). It can stay in air for 3 weeks while carrying 20,000lbs (9 tonnes) of cargo.

It may be added that the part plane and part airship was first designed in 2010, but a series of budget cuts left it sitting in hanger in Bedfordshire. Now, a £3.4 million ($5.25 million) grant from the UK government is set to get the giant ‘flying bum’ aircraft off ground next year.

The giant aircraft or the airland as it being known as is currently being held at Cardington, UK, which in the only hangar big enough to accommodate the 113ft (34m) wide and 85ft (26m) high beast.

Taiwan plane plunges into river - kills at least 31

South Asia suffers yet another plane crash - this time its is Taiwan's TransAsia plane that plunged into river, killing at least 31 people.

Most of the passengers were Chinese aboard the ill fated aircraft  came down shortly after take-off from a Taipei airport.

The plane, carrying 58 people, broke up as it plunged into Taipei's Keelung River. The fuselage was later salvaged by crane.

There were 15 survivors pulled from the wreckage but 12 people remain missing.
