Microsoft unveils Surface Windows 8 tablets

In our post on 16th June, quoting Daily Mail we announced that speculation was rising that Microsoft would formally introduce the Windows Tablet next Monday - with the tech giant holding a mysterious event in San Francisco.

Now that big announcement has come: Microsoft has unveiled Surface - its own-brand family of tablets.

The touchscreen computers will be powered by its upcoming Windows 8 system and contain a choice of an Intel or ARM-based processor.

It allows the firm to challenge Apple's bestselling iPad with a device that can run standard applications such as its own Office programs and Photoshop.

Galaxy Tab 10.1 Faces Ban in U.S.

Samsung's Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet PC looks highly likely to be banned in the U.S. The Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit on Monday accepted part of a request from Apple for a preliminary ban on the sale of four Samsung products -- the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and three smartphone models.

The court accepted Apple's request to ban the Galaxy Tab 10.1 -- one of four tablet PCs Samsung sells in the U.S. -- and returned the case to the district court for a retrial.

But it rejected the call to ban the three smartphones.

Dell sees room to challenge Apple in tablets

As Apple's third-generation iPad went on sale on Friday, accompanied by the now traditional scenes of fans queuing round the block , Dell's chief commercial officer Steve Felice said the tablet market was still wide open.

Dell ditched its previous attempt at cracking the global tablet market, the Streak, last year. It was based on Google's Android operating system software.

Now Dell is planning a fresh assault with the advent of Microsoft's new Windows 8 operating platform, which is expected later this year and will have a touch interface that works across desktop computers, tablets and smartphones.

Dell plots late-2012 consumer tablet launch

Dell Inc intends to launch its first consumer tablet computer in late 2012, marking its entry into a hotly contested and increasingly crowded arena that has already claimed arch-foe Hewlett Packard.

While rivals from HP to Research in Motion introduced a spate of gadgets with much fanfare and went toe-to-toe with the still-dominant Apple Inc iPad, Dell kept a low profile with good reason, Dell chief commercial officer Steve Felice said.

"We have been taking our time. The general failure of everyone that's tried to introduce a tablet outside of Apple" suggested Dell made a prudent choice, Felice said in an interview. "You will see us enter this market in a bigger way toward the end of the year. So we are not really deemphasizing it, we are really being very careful how we enter it.

Toshiba Introduces the Thinnest 10-Inch Tablet Ever

At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Toshiba just announced the Excite X10 tablet, the thinnest 10-inch tablet ever built.

The Excite X10, which boasts a 10.1 inch IPS display, is a mere 7.7 mm thick. The iPad 2 is 8.8 mm thick, in comparison. It sits on the "premium" shelf just above Toshiba's budget Thrive tablets.

The List Of Samsung Devices That Will Get Official Android v4 Ice Cream Sandwich Early 2012

Samsung has officially released the list of its smartphones getting the latest Android OS v4 Ice Cream Sandwich along with their release dates. 

According to Samsung Electronics press release, Galaxy Tab 10.1/8.9/7.7/7.0+ , Galaxy R, Galaxy Note, Galaxy S 2 and Galaxy S 2 LTE will get the official support for Android’s new OS Ice Cream Sandwich. Yes the Galaxy S 1 will not be getting the official update by Samsung, probably because it doesn’t have a dual-core processor like the other devices.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Ban Lifted In Australia: Apple to Appeal on Friday

An Australian court has lifted the ban from the Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia, reversing heir previous decision which had banned the tablet’s sales in Australia.

Sydney Morning Herald reports :-

The full bench of the Federal Court – Justices John Dowsett, Lindsay Foster and David Yates – today unanimously reversed a Federal Court judge’s ruling last month that Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 be banned from sale in Australia.

“Samsung will be permitted to launch the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia provided it keeps accounts of all transactions involving that device in Australia,” the judges wrote in their judgment.

However, Apple has been able to extend the ban until tomorrow (Friday) at 4pm while it prepares fro an appeal to the High Court which might turn around the tables.

Research Firm NPD has today released a new study which details non-iPad tablet sales in first 10 month of 2011. The study reveals that only 1.2 million non-iPad tablets have been sold and quite surprisingly, HP is at the top of the list.

5 million shipments of Amazon Kindle Fire being claimed

Electronista reports: Amazon's claims of ordering "millions more" Kindle Fire units may have been borne out by a leak Wednesday. Having already bumped its original order from 3.5 million to four million, Amazon was said by Digitimes' purported supply chain sources to be boosting production to "more than five million."

Amazon expected demand to keep increasing after the end of 2011, leading it to ask for more to keep up its supply.

Galaxy Tab 10.1 on sale in Australia despite legal threats from Apple

Retailers in Australia are reportedly selling Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 despite its blocking by Apple through a court ruling last month.

The retailers say that they will not back down and will continue selling the device by  moving operations outside the Australian court’s jurisdiction by re-organizing their online operations and setting up entirely new entity elsewhere in Europe  with the tablets delivered to customers from Asia.

It may be added that Samsung has already filed a counter suit against court ruling, the hearing of which is scheduled for November 25 later this month.
