China's basketball legend Yao Ming, has returned to college months after he announced his retirement from the game. The 7ft 6in basketball giant, plagued by foot injuries, had made the decision in favour of his higher education.

The ex-Houston Rockets player is getting a tailored degree course in economics.

Joe Frazier dies of Cancer

Joe Frazier, the former world heavyweight boxing champion dies of cancer. He was 67. Frazier was diagnosed of liver cancer in September.

"Smokin' Joe" as he was generally known rose to the boxing headlines the world over when he beat the then famous unbeaten world heavy weight champion Muhammad Ali in Madison Square Garden on March 8, 1971 (highlights of fight video below).


Over their prime time, Muhammad Ali and Frazier had almost become synonymous to each other and their bouts were treat to watch. Muhammad Ali on his death said:
"The world has lost a great champion. I will always remember Joe with respect and admiration. My sympathy goes out to his family and loved ones."

Italian Marco Simoncelli dies during Malaysian MotoGP motorcycle race

24 years old Italian rider Marco Simoncelli has died after wrecking in the Malaysian MotoGP motorcycle race Sunday. Simoncelli lost control of his Honda in the 11th turn on the first lap but his bike regained partial grip and pulled him back across the track, straight into the path of Italy's Valentino Rossi and American Colin Edwards. His tragic death comes a week after Dan Wheldon who was killed in the IndyCar season finale in Las Vegas.

Now that Wheldon, one of the best racer ever, is no more, people are trying to figure out what really happened at IndyCar rac that caused the tragic accident. There are many versions - but one of the most weighted one is that there were too many cars in a very cramped race track - all dashing to fetch the tempting cash reward. Even poor Wheldon was carried away by the prize money, when he confided with friends, " I’ll do everything I can to put on a show." There are other revelations as well.

Asean Rickshaw Run - Ready, Get, Set, Go!!

This is amazing - the race of rickshaws across continents. The rickshaw race starting from Jakarta to Sumatra, across the Malacca Strait to Penang, Malaysia, and hopefully all the way north to Bangkok, covering a distance of more than 2,500 kilometers is unique race of its kind, which may take up to two weeks to finish or may be more. Some 64 participants from 12 countries kicked off from the Asean Secretariat in South Jakarta on Sunday, heading out in a new fleet of bajaj, with each one decorated to promote a different charity.

Formula 1 champion Vettel wins Korean Grand Prix

Twice world champion Sebastian Vettel won the Korean Grand Prix on Sunday to help his Red Bull team retain the Formula 1 title. The win comes just a week after cruising to third place in Japan, where Vettel confirmed himself as the 2011 world champion. This is his 10th win this year and 20th of his career.

France reaches Rugby World Cup final

The French were all joy and jubilant when they beat the Wales 9-8 in Auckland this Saturday to move into the final of Rugby World Cup. The match got a bad tastes when the Wales' captain was dismissed for 18 minutes by the Irish referee for a dangerous tackle. At that time, Wales had a 3-0 lead. For the Wales' captain Sam Warburton, "There was no malicious intent. It was a normal tackle. The next thing I'm walking to the stands."

With five gold medals, two silver and four bronze medals, Pakistani teams excelled in the South Asia beach Games at Hambantota - Sri Lanka, while India and Sri Lanka are topping the medal chart though.Pakistan won gold medals in Kabaddi, windsurfing-heavyweight, windsurfing-lightweight, beach handball and equestrian-lance and sword pairs.

Hawaii declares Surfing an official athletic competition for high schools

Hawaii, widely considered the birthplace of modern surfing, becomes the first U.S. state to offer Surfing, the sport of island kings, as an official form of athletic competition in its high schools. The sposoring of the sports to be paid entirely with private funds. 

All of the roughly 50,000 students in the state's 46 public high schools will be eligible to ride Hawaii's famous waves as a school-sponsored extramural sport by the spring of 2013.

12th Asian Masters Bodybuilding Championship - 55 years old wins bronze

In the field of sports, 55 years is no age to compete internationally as at this age a man is gone past his prime age, agility and body strength. But not for Shabbir Hussain from Pakistan. He even at the age of 55 years, has kept himself in superb physical fitness and maintained his body in an excellent form. He today won a bronze medal at the 12th Asian Masters Bodybuilding Championship, held at Bangkok.  It may be added that Shabbir had won the Asian Junior title in 1984.

Baseball is the favourite game, specially in the USA. While the Pitcher, the bowler in cricket language, is always finding angles to beat back the Batter, or the batsman as we call in cricket, the Batter has to be ready always to hit back precisely and accurately before he finishes away his chances. While the Batter has to read the Pitcher's face and his body language to ascertain how he is going to Pitch or Bowl, h himself has to be very proficient in hitting back.

For example the Texas Christian University call their mascot a Horned Frog since 1897, which in fact is a thorny lizard and not a frog by any means.

12 major league teams losing fans

An analysis of the past ten years shows 12 of the major league teams are losing fans due to their wavy performance. the attendance of four major league teams - NHL, NFL, NBA and MLB is quoted to be remaining flat from 2001 to 2010. Extreme mountain biking race on top of the world

From 16-18 September some 30 mountain bikers from around the world participated in a race on their mountain bikes starting from an elevation of some 9,000 feet and culminating at 13,500 feet. The Himalayas International Mountainbike Race 2011 was recently organized as a fund raising campaign to build school for the children effected by the massive earthquake that rocked Pakistan in October 2008.
