Tony Blair finally apologises for Iraq War

Britain's ex prime minister and a key US ally Tony Blair has finally spoken out on Iraq War and says he is sorry for his conduct that has led to hell in Iraq.

Remaining quiet for 12 long years after the Iraqi invasion, Blair makes his dramatic ‘mea culpa’ during a TV interview about the ‘hell’ caused by his and George Bush’s decision to oust Saddam Hussein.

He is reported to have also said: ‘I also apologise for some of the mistakes in planning and, certainly, our mistake in our understanding of what would happen once you removed the regime.’ 'Of course you can’t say those of us who removed Saddam in 2003 bear no responsibility for the situation in 2015.’

The revelation is said have been forced on Tony Blair after Lord Blunkett revealed he had challenged Blair about the war.

It may be recalled that earlier Blair has categoricall said at the House of Commons in 2004: 'I will not apologise for the conflict. I believe it was right.' He further said in a TV interview in 2007: ‘I don’t think we should be apologising at all for what we are doing in Iraq. We should be immensely proud. I can’t take responsibility for people sending car bombs into a market place.’ 

And as lately as 2013, Blair said: ‘When people say to me, “Do you regret removing him”, my answer is, “No – how can you regret removing somebody who was a monster?” ’

NATO GLOC: Panetta says US will not be price ‘gouged’

Amidst seemingly deadlocked negotiations between the US and Pakistan over NATO supply routes or the GLOC (Ground Lines of Communication) as these have been called recently, US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta vowed on Sunday not to let Washington be ‘gouged’ by Islamabad on the price it charges for overland deliveries of American military supplies to Afghanistan.

The statement which is likely to further incense Pakistani officials follows months of gingerly steps by the US to make up with Islamabad. Pakistan had closed the land route to Nato supplies in November as punishment for the Nato air strike in Mohmand Agency that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.

US defence officials have said the Pakistanis are demanding several thousand dollars for every truck crossing its border with the supplies, up from $250 per truck before the closure.

Dutch Govt Apologizes for 1947 Indonesian Massacre

The Netherlands has officially apologized to relatives of victims killed in Rawagede village during Indonesia’s struggle to keep its independence more than six decades ago. About 430 villagers were killed by the Dutch troops on Dec. 9, 1947.

Dutch Ambassador to Indonesia Tjeerd de Zwaan presided over a tearful ceremony on Friday, attended by hundreds of villagers including surviving widows in their late 80s and early 90s, to issue an official apology from the Dutch state for its responsibility in the Rawagede Massacre.

“Today, we remember your family members who died 64 years ago at the hands of the Dutch military troops. On behalf of Dutch government, I deeply apologize for the tragedy,” Ambassador de Zwaan is quoted as saying.
