Iran to get Russian S-300 air defence missiles by March 2016

Russian news agency TASS quoting Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehghan has reported that Iran would get Russian S-300 air defense missile systems (photo above) by March 2016.

"The process of the S-300 system’s delivery to Iran has entered the implementation stage," the diplomat is quoted by the agency.

The S-300 is long range surface-to-air missile systems produced by NPO Almaz, all based on the initial S-300P version. The S-300 system was developed to defend against aircraft and cruise missiles for the Soviet Air Defence Forces. 

S-300PMU-2 version, which Iran will ultimately be getting, has a maximum range of 90 kilometres with a speed of 2,000 M/S

Russia may sell SU-35 to Pakistan - says Asst Russian President

The Assistant Russian President Vladimir Kozhin has been reported as saying that Russia may deliver to Pakistan, apart from a few units of Mi-35M, Su-35.

According to the source, the negotiations on the preparation of contracts for the delivery to Pakistan of "several pieces of" Mi-35 M and SU-35 are continuing.

SU-35 - multi role fighter generation 4 ++, deep modernization of the SU-27 avionics with elements of combat aircraft of the fifth generation. 

It may be added here that Russia so far has not exported this aircraft - however it plans to sell it to China.

Japan set to ease arms export ban

Japan is to ease an arms export ban that has been in place since 1967, the top government spokesman has confirmed.

The move will allow Japan to jointly develop arms with other countries and supply military equipment for humanitarian missions, the spokesman said.

It is expected to benefit Japan's defence contractors and could help bring military costs down.
