Turkey to Upgrade Pakistan Navy's Agosta Attack Submarines

In a mutual defence agreement between Pakistan and Turkey, a Turkish defense contractor will upgrade the second of three Agosta 90B submarines in service with the Pakistan Navy.

As reported, Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik ve Ticaret A.Åž. (STM), a Turkish state-owned defense contractor,  has won a contract for the mid-life upgrade of the second of three Agosta 90B-class (aka Khalid-class) diesel-electric attack submarines equipped with air-independent propulsion systems, currently in service with the Pakistan Navy.

The upgrade also includes installation of a Sharp Eye low probability-of-intercept (LPI) radar system aboard the PNS Saad. Additionally, “under the project, STM will make modifications on the pressure hull, the most critical structure in a submarine.”

It may be added that the three Agosta 90B attack submarines were acquired by Pakistan Navy between 1999 and 2008 from France.

Could Russia be making giant nuclear torpedo

A leaked news of a possible making of a giant nuclear torpedo by Russia has stirred the world.

The leaked news is attributed to a photo of one general was seen studying a diagram of the "devastating" torpedo system (photo above). The leak happened during a report on state-run Channel One about President Vladimir Putin meeting military chiefs in the city of Sochi.

Launched by a submarine, it would create "wide areas of radioactive contamination", the document says.

Although the Kremlin says secret plans for a Russian long-range nuclear torpedo - called "Status-6" - should not have appeared on Russian TV news, but the Russian government newspaper Rossiiskaya Gazeta has published details of the weapon, without showing the diagram, and speculated about a super-radioactive cobalt device. Experts thus believe that the leak may not have been accidental.

China Develops a Stealth Drone

The tail-less stealth drone 'Sharp Sword' developed by China

China news media has reported that China has launched and tested its first unmanned stealth combat aircraft, crossing a milestone in drone technology and marking the country's rapid advancement towards Western-level military capabilities.

The tailless delta-wing drone 'Sharp Sword' successfully flew for 20 minutes on Thursday from a south western Chinese testing facility.

The aircraft is reportedly similar to the U.S. Navy's X-47B drone, which first successfully took off from and landed on an aircraft carrier in July, while others have suggested the drone is a reverse-engineered copy of Russia's Mikoyan Skat UAV.

The drone would potentially be used for surveillance or launching missile strikes, possibly from China's sole aircraft carrier, the Laoning, which was purchased from the Ukraine in September 2012 and is expected to be fully functional in several years.

China military denounces U.S.-Australia defense upgrade

The News 1 Dec

China's military denounced the United States and Australia on Wednesday for upgrading military ties, warning that such moves could erode trust and fan Cold War-era antagonism.

Earlier this month, Obama told Asia-Pacific leaders that the United States was "here to stay," announced the plans to set up the de facto military base in north Australia and chided China for trying to prevent discussion of its South China Sea territorial disputes at regional forums.
