Fire engulfs 20 storeys of Dubai's 63 storey hotel near Burj al Khalifa

While this report is being filed, Address Hotel, a hotel near famous Burj Al Khalifa in Dubai has caught fire. Presently 20 of its 63 storeys are engulfed in fierce fire.

The hotel which is full of tourists on account of the new year celebrations is being evacuated of its guests by the rescue services and fire brigade.

It may be added that Dubai is one of the hottest destinations on special occasions like new year eve.

Aircraft crash leaves seven dead in Britain

In a horrifying air disaster a 1950 vintage Hawker Hunter aircraft during an air show stalls and crashes into a wedding limo on A27 dual carriageway - leaving seven dead and over a dozen injured.

The pilot averted a crash on the long line of vehicles before it finally crashed on wedding limo

The incident occurred during the Shoreham Airshow and smashed into cars on busy road right in front of thousands of horrified spectators.

The pilot, named locally as Andy Hill who flies for British Airways, was pulled from the burning wreckage and is now recovering in hospital.

British Airways passenger aircraft engine catches fire midair

In a bizarre incident of ground crew sheer negligence, a British Airways passenger aircraft narrowly escaped a disaster as 'covers' of both the engines blew off and one of them caught fire.

The flight was forced to make an emergency landing at Heathrow with one engine damaged and the other on fire. The emergency landing caused the plane to scatter chunks of metal, some weighing up to 37kg, across the runway.

It was later found out that the ehausted engineers worked on the wrong aircraft and thus failed to remove the covers of the engines before the aircraft took off. One of the BA technicians had worked 70 hours over seven consecutive days and nights and was on the second of two 12-hour overtime night shifts.

The incident occurred on Flight A319 from London to Oslo in May 2013, published in Daily Mail on 14 July 2015

Aviation disaster averted after Emirates and Etihad planes come within 25 seconds of collision over Indian Airspace

Aviation disaster are often caused by misjudgment of the ground controller and a many a times countless lives have been lost due to mid-air collisions of the aircraft.

A similar grave situation occurred over the Arabian Sea in the Indian airspace when Emirates and Etihad planes come within 25 seconds of collision on Monday.

Neither the Dubai carrier nor Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways would say how close the two planes came to each other. However a Resolution Advisory (RA) was given to both planes, which means the distance between the two aircraft could have resulted in a collision within 25 seconds, reports the Daily Mail.

Since the incident occured in the Indian air space, Indian officials are now investigating the incident.

Japan Sasago tunnel collapse - many cars trapped inside

Sasago, one of the longest road tunnel has collapsed in Japan, trapping a number of vehicles and leaving at least seven people missing, media reports say.

The incident started at 08:00 local time (23:00 GMT Saturday), about 80km (50 miles) west of Tokyo on a road that links it to the city of Nagoya.

Survivors described how large sections of concrete fell on top of cars in the Sasago tunnel.

Pictures from closed circuit TV cameras inside the tunnel showed a section of up to 100m (328ft) that had caved in on the Tokyo-bound lanes on the Chuo Expressway in Yamanashi prefecture.

A fire broke out and rescuers said a number of charred bodies had been seen.

Gayari: Body of one more martyr found

Body of one more martyred soldier of the Pak Army has been pulled out in Gayari sector of Siachen. The number of bodies of martyrs found thus far now totals four. According to ISPR sources body of one of the soldiers buried under snow on April 7 has been found. 

The rescue operation in Gayari continues for the 58th day and after the discovery of the body of latest martyr, which is in the process of being identified, the work to clear snow in the areas close to where the remains was found is being speeded up.

Hundreds feared drowned in Indian ferry disaster

A packed ferry boat capsized in heavy winds and rain in remote northeastern India late Monday, leaving at least 35 people dead and 165 others feared missing, police said.

Assam state police chief J.N. Choudhury said the boat was carrying about 350 passengers and broke into two pieces. The area is about 350 kilometers (215 miles) west of the state capital, Gauhati, and close to where the river enters Bangladesh. About 150 people who were traveling on the top level were rescued or swam to safety, he said. 

Strong winds and rain likely caused the accident, Choudhury said. Police and paramilitary soldiers were sent to help local villagers with rescue efforts, he said.

Siachen tragedy - Day 7: Foreign teams arrive to help avalanche rescuers

Landslide in Siachen has blanketed 138 Pakistan Army personnel since one week

The rescue operation in Siachen, Pakistan entered its seventh day with the arrival of three Swiss, six German and eight American experts on Friday.

The search operation, undertaken to evacuate buried soldiers, gained momentum after German, Swiss and American experts reached the Gayari area, a military official administering the army operation said.

Other military officials, who provide updates about the rescue operation through a helpline, said that at present rescuers are set to dig a 130-foot tunnel into the snow and are mainly focusing on six ‘priority points’ where they believe the army’s battalion headquarters was present in Gyari.

Rare Challenger Video: Super 8 Film of Space Shuttle Disaster Uncovered

Although, it has been decades since the unfortunate disaster of space shuttle Challenger soon after the lift off, there has been no unofficial video of the disaster ever released. However, recently a rare film of the 1986 Challenger explosion, taken by Jeffrey Ault of Orange City, Fla., has emerged. It is perhaps the only amateur recording of the event on film.

The video begins with the countdown to launch, and as the Challenger lifts off, cheers and applause can be heard in the background. The camera follows the shuttle as it climbs, reaching a height of more than nine nautical miles. At 73 seconds, a fireball appears and a woman screams. It's not until 39 seconds later that Steve Nesbitt's chilling words can be heard from the Mission Control Center: "Flight control is here looking very carefully at the situation. Obviously a major malfunction."

The film ends moments after Nesbitt announces that the vehicle has exploded.

Costa Concordia Disaster: Ship crew 'downplayed emergency' [Video]

A video has emerged showing the crew of the Costa Concordia reassuring passengers nothing was wrong, after the cruise ship had begun taking in water.

In the amateur footage below, a crew member says "everything is under control" and a generator problem will be fixed. She asks passengers to go to their cabins.

While many were running for life, one passenger chose to film the water flowing in the fateful ship - to me it looks like a Hollywood movie scene. But it is real and tragic that killed 11 and still many are missing.

Italian police are seeking a ballerina they believe may shed light on the Costa Concordia disaster. Domnica Cemortan was seen cavorting with Captain Francesco Schettino in the minutes before his cruise liner foundered on rocks.

Costa Concordia Disaster: Rescuers blast holes in stricken ship

Italian naval divers on Tuesday exploded holes in the hull of a cruise ship grounded off a Tuscan island to speed the search for 29 missing people while seas were still calm. One official said there was still a "glimmer of hope" that survivors could be found.

Prosecutors, meanwhile, prepared to question the captain, who is accused of causing the wreck that left at least six dead and abandoning the Costa Concordia before all 4,200 people onboard were safely evacuated after the vessel capsized Friday night.

Billion-dollar weather disasters smash US record

America smashed the record for billion-dollar weather disasters this year with a deadly dozen, and counting. The U.S. in 2011 has seen more weather catastrophes that caused at least $1 billion in damage than it did in all of the 1980s, even after the dollar figures from back then are adjusted for inflation.

Extreme weather in America this year has killed more than 1,000 people, according to National Weather Service Director Jack Hayes. The dozen billion-dollar disasters alone add up to $52 billion. The old record for $1 billion disasters was nine, in 2008.

Bhopal Survivors Block Trains in India

Thousands of survivors of the world's worst industrial accident blocked trains through a central Indian city on Saturday to demand more compensation for the 1984 disaster.

The protest came on the 27th anniversary of the disaster in Bhopal, where a Union Carbide pesticide plant leaked gas that killed some 15,000 people and maimed tens of thousands of others.
