Pakistan Army inducts first batch of indgeniously produced strategic drones

Today, it is the second news about drones development. In the morning we shared news about the stealth drone 'Sharp Sword' developed by China.

Now it is has been reported by Pakistan's ISPR that Pakistan today inducted the 1st fleet of indigenously developed Strategic Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), namely Burraq and Shahpar UAV Systems in Pakistan Army and Pakistan Air Force. It is a landmark and historic event, wherein a very effective force multiplier has been added to the inventory of the Armed Forces.


In the future these UAVs could also be gainfully employed in various socio-economic development projects, as well.

The ceremony was attended by General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief of Army Staff, Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt, Chief of the Air Staff, Lieutenant General (Retd) Khalid Ahmed Kidwai, Director General Strategic Plans Division and senior officers from Armed Forces, scientists and engineers.

General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief of Army Staff, while appreciating the work of NESCOM scientists and engineers, highlighted that induction of indigenously developed surveillance capable UAVs in Pakistan Armed Forces is a force multiplier, and will substantially enhance their target acquisition capabilities in real time.

Iran claims it 'captured' US drone in its airspace

The Iran - US row over the fate of the 'captured' drone by Iran intensifies as one site claims of capturing it while the other says its inventory has been fully checked and there are no deficiencies.

The recent Iranian claim to 'capture' a US drone over its territorial waters is being negated by the US the same way an earlier drone shootout was, but later admitted by the USA. In the latest development, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards said on its website that the Scan Eagle drone had been flying over the Gulf for a few days and was "captured" when it strayed into Iranian airspace.

The Scan Eagle is a 1.25m-long "off the shelf" spy plane manufactured by Boeing.

The Revolutionary Guards statement did not specify when or where the drone was caught, or whether it was shot down or crashed. But it released what it said was a video of an apparently undamaged Scan Eagle being examined by uniformed officers beneath a sign reading in English: "We shall trample on the US.''

However, the US forces spokesman denies the charges and claims: "The US Navy has fully accounted for all unmanned air vehicles operating in the Middle East region. Our operations in the Gulf are confined to internationally recognized water and air space."

The incident however has highlighted tensions in the Gulf which may have serious ramification on the sea activities of the 40% of the world oil cargo in the Persian Gulf.

Israel shoots down mysterious drone

The Israeli air force  shot down a drone after it crossed into southern Israel, the military says, but it remains unclear where the aircraft had come from.

The drone was first spotted above the Mediterranean in the area of the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip to the west of Israel, said military spokeswoman Avital Leibovich.

It was kept under surveillance and followed by Israeli air force jets before it was shot down above a forest in an unpopulated area near the border with the occupied West Bank.

Leibovich said it was shot down at about 10am (local time), after it travelled east some 55 kilometres across Israel's southern Negev desert.

CIA Has Been Sending Stealth Drones Deep Into Iran For Years

The RQ-170 Sentinel drone lost over Iran late last year was not the United State's first foray into Iran with the stealth UAV, and the Sentinel was not simply plying the northern border of Afghanistan as officials have maintained.

The doomed flight, where the Iranians claim they brought down the drone electronically, and the U.S. says it went down due to a malfunction, was simply the most recent reconnaissance mission deep into Iran by the CIA in the three years since the missions began.

High-Altitude Navy Drone to Track Hundreds of Ships Simultaneously

Seth Robson at Stars and Stripes reports the unnamed drone currently called the Broad Area Maritime Surveillance (BAMS) system may help keep an eye on the Iranian Navy and its possibly nefarious plans for U.S. forces in the region.

The BAMS will likely be a modified RQ-4 Global Hawk with modified radar, powerful cameras, and infra-red sensors allowing it to track hundreds of ships at any one time — it's expected to enter service in 2015.

Iran Will Not Return Downed American Drone

Iran will not return the downed American surveillance drone, RQ-170, captured by its armed forces, a senior commander of the country's elite Revolutionary Guard said Sunday.

"No one returns the symbol of aggression to the party that sought secret and vital intelligence related to the national security of a country," Gen. Hossein Salami, deputy head of the Guard said in an interview on the state run TV.

However, Gen Salami refused to provide more details of Iran's claim to have captured the CIA-operated aircraft.

"A party that wins in an intelligence battle doesn't reveal its methods. We can't elaborate on the methods we employed to intercept, control, discover and bring down the pilotless plane."

Drone loss fuels fears of US technology leak

The radar-evading RQ-170 drone that crash-landed over the weekend in Iran was on a mission for the CIA, according to a senior US official, raising fears that the aircraft's sophisticated technology could be exploited by Tehran or shared with other American rivals.

It was unclear whether the drone's mission took it over Iran or whether it strayed there accidentally because of technical malfunctions, the official said.

Iran shoots down American drone

A military source in Tehran on state television has told that Iran's military has shot down a U.S. reconnaissance drone aircraft in eastern Iran. Iran has threatened to respond to the violation of Iranian airspace, the military source added.

The drone is said to be RQ-170 type. The downed drone with little damage has been seized by the military, Iran's Arabic-language Al Alam state television network quoted the unnamed source as saying.

Dubai Air Show: UAE introduces Armed Drone

A surprise at Dubai Air Show stunned everyone - display of an armed drone developed by a UAE based firm Ascom Systems, Thursday.

"MALE"

The drone called MALE (Medium Altitude Long Endurance) or simply United 40, has a  wingspan of 17.5 metres, and resorted to have a maximum payload of 400 kilogrammes, and carries 300 litres of fuel, of which 260 litres are in the wings. And its special feature: It can carry eight 60-kilometre (37-miles) range "Nemrod" missiles in its fuselage.
