Joe Biden moving his suitcases to White House

The race to White House finally ends with Joe Biden moving his suitcases to the White House after ousting the sitting US president Donald Trump with a vast majority of 290:214.

There seemed to be a stale mate after the results were announced as 248:224. And the entire world was watching over the TV screens for a final countdown, not really keeping heir fingers crossed as the trends were in favours of Biden. However, surprisingly, despite Trump's rather erratic behaviour as the president, the elections were almost closely and hotly contested and US citizens showed their love for Trump.

As for the Vice President, it is Kamala Harris, the first woman, and the first black and Asian American, to be vice-president-elect. 

With the new people in the White House, let us hope the decades old unrest crated by US by invading dozens of countries across the world comes to an end and that peace finally prevails.

The beauty of true democracy was unveiled today when the son of a bus driver from Pakistan became the first Muslim mayor of London, defeating rich Goldsmith family's son.

Sadiq Khan has scored more than a million votes as against Zac Goldsmith and has been declared as the first Muslim Mayor of London. Sadiq's victor comes at a time when Muslims are facing a fierce backlash of the ongoing atrocities being unleashed by ISIS in the Middle East. It may be added that the bitterly contested battle had seen Mr Goldsmith and David Cameron repeatedly raise Mr Khan's ties to extremists.

Jemima, sister of Zac Goldsmith has congratulated Sadiq Khan by saying: She added: 'Congratulations to Sadiq Khan - 1st Muslim Mayor of London- a city for all cultures, backgrounds & religions. A great example to young Muslims.'

Would London have its first Muslim Mayor after Elections this week?

The forthcoming local elections in Britain this week may have a surprise for the Londoners - a Muslim mayor for a change.

Labour Party's Sadiq Khan, is pised to win the elections and become the first Muslim mayour of one of the leading cities of the world. He has alreadfy served as a minister in Gordon Brown’s government.

Opposing him is Zac Goldsmith, the Conservative candidate - a wealthy scion of a billionaire banker and the British aristocracy. He seems like a natural leader in the next generation of Tories.

Cameron likely to return as British PM once again

The exit polls underway in UK show sitting British PM Cameron to continue as the PM for his party's lead. However, he is likely to head a minority government without the need for a coalition - although he might have to rely on the support of the DUP or the Lib Dems.

Meanwhile, Labour faces being wiped out by the SNP in Scotland and is failing to make the gains it needs in England to stand a chance of forming a government.

The exit poll is predicting that the ruling Conservatives would capture 316 seats in the House of Commons, with Labour taking only 239.

Uncertain future looms for eurozone

The continuing fragility of the eurozone was revealed by this weekend’s Italian general elections. The surprise success of a comedian, Beppe Grillo, unnerved markets enough that Italian bond yields shot up overnight and depressed the euro’s value. 

European leaders had to come out and make reassuring noises. And this was even before the nature of the new Italian government and its policies was clear. Yet the vote did send a troubling message about the public mood in Europe. The centre-left coalition of Pier Luigi Bersani won a slim majority in the lower house.

The combined vote of Mr Grillo and the conservative candidate, Silvio Berlusconi, however, indicated a troubling majority of Italian voters supported an end to continuing economic austerity. The only candidate who backed the present regime of fiscal prudence was the outgoing Mario Monti and he received barely 10% of the vote.

Muslim Brotherhood’s Morsy wins Egyptian presidency

Mohamed Morsy of the Muslim Brotherhood was declared Egypt’s first democratic president on Sunday by the state election committee, which said he had defeated former general Ahmed Shafik with 51.7 percent of last weekend’s run-off vote.

He succeeds Hosni Mubarak, who was overthrown 16 months ago after a popular uprising. The military council which has ruled the biggest Arab nation since then has this month curbed the powers of the presidency, meaning the head of state will have to work closely with the army on a planned democratic constitution.

Thousands of Brotherhood supporters burst into cheers on Cairo’s Tahrir Square, waving national flags, setting off fireworks and chanting “Allahu Akbar!” or God is Great, greeting a dramatic victory, tempered by the army’s continuing role. “Say! Don’t fear! The military must go!” crowds chanted.

Merkel faces election loss

A bad European week for Chancellor Angela Merkel looks likely to end with more electoral woes — this time, the likely re-election of a center-left government in Germany’s most populous state, which Merkel has sought to portray as irresponsibly addicted to debt.

But despite the prospect of an embarrassing loss for her conservatives, Merkel still looks unlikely to join French ally Nicolas Sarkozy any time soon in the parade of European leaders booted out by voters weary of Berlin-backed austerity. Merkel’s stance is widely shared by German voters nationally.

Merkel’s national center-right coalition has become notorious for infighting over issues ranging from tax cuts to planned benefits for stay-at-home parents since it took power in late 2009. It has performed badly in several state elections over the past year.

The first round of the French presidential election has not substantially diminished the likelihood that the Élysée Palace will have a new occupant next month, after Nicolas Sarkozy last Sunday bucked the trend whereby the incumbent initially takes the lead.

Breaking News: Putin elected Russian President

Amid reports of widespread violations, with many people voting more than once, Vladimir Putin has been elected Russian president for the third time, exit polls suggest, after spending the last four years as the country's PM.

The exit polls gave Mr Putin about 60% of the vote, meaning that he should avoid a run-off with his nearest rival, Communist Gennady Zyuganov.

Officials say turnout was higher than for the last election in 2008.

Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood said on Wednesday it won most seats in a first-round parliamentary vote, with early tallies suggesting liberals had backed some of its candidates to block hardline Salafis.

The Islamist group, which was banned under ousted president Hosni Mubarak, had already won 37 percent of the vote in an initial phase of the multi-pronged election, meaning it is well on course to have the largest bloc of seats in the new assembly.

The latest is that Ginger White, a Georgia woman, claimed Monday she and Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain had a 13-year extramarital affair that lasted nearly until the former businessman announced his candidacy for the White House several months ago.

Ginger White said in an interview with Fox 5 Atlanta that over the years, Cain bought her airplane tickets so she could join him in cities as far-flung as Palm Springs, Calif., and Atlanta.
