Australian Open Grand Finale: Nadal all set to regain lost glory - meets Federer in the final

Rafael Nadal of Spain won a stunning victory to reach the  final of the on going Australian Open tennis.

Nadal beat G. Dimitrov 6-3 5-7 7-6 (7-5) 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 in a match that lasted almost five hours.

Now the test ahead of his fitness ahead is the grand finale in which he meets 35 years Swiss Roger Federer, who too is looking for a Grand Slam title to start his tennis year with another feather in his cap. 

Nadal, who is attempting to win a 15th major title, has faced Federer 34 times, winning 23 matches. This also includes the 2009 Australian title which he won while playing Federer.

Revised tennis ranking put Federer and Azaranka back on top

The recent Wimbledon results have re-shuffled the ATP / WTA ranking structure, though marginally.

The 2012 Wimbledon Title winner Swiss Roger Federer who had been sidelined by Djokovic and Nadal at no.3 place, moves up two slots to be the reining No.1 once again - a ranking he held from 2004-2008. Federer beat Djokovic in the semi finals and British Andy Murray in the finals. Nadal was ousted in the second round from the tournament.

Novak Djokovic and Nadal slip one slot down each to be the new world no. 2 and 3, while Andy Murray remains at no.4.

Victoria Azarenka [with her French Open 2012 trophy] regains her WTA no.1 ranking

In the WTA Ranking, Victoria Azarenka moves back to her no.1 ranking, which was temporarily held by Russian Maria Sharapova after she when the French Open Grand Slam earlier this year. 

Sharapova now moves down two slots to be the world no.3, while Polish Agnieszka Radwanska moves from no.3 position to no.2. Serena Williams after her 5th win of the Wimbledon Ladies' Singles title moves up two notches from no. 6to no.4. Czech Petra Kvitova, the unsuccessful defending champion moves to no. 6 from no.4. Australian Samantha Stosur remains firm on her no. 5th ranking.

Federer storms into Wimbledon Final for a Seventh win

What a day it was at the Centre Court Wimbledon this afternoon when the titans came to clash each other in the first semi final of the men's single event of the Wimbledon.

The match between the defending champion and world no.1 Serbian Novak Djokovic and world no.3 Swiss Roger Federer ended in classic victory byt eh Swiss over the deffending champion.

Federer having won the first set 6-3, lost the second set t Djokovic 6-3. But thereafter, it was Federer commanding the Serbian and finally won over the match 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 and 6-3.

Federer now marches into the Wimbledon final to realize his dream of equalling the seven times win record of of William Renshaw and Pete Sempras.

The result of the other semi final between British no.1 Andy Murray and Frenchman Tsonga is awaited - it remains to be seen whether Murray moves to final and win over Federer to make history hoping to end Britain's 76-year wait for a male singles champion at Wimbledon or it is Federer who equals the seven wins record of William Renshaw and Pete Sempras.

Wimbledon Day 1: Djokovic, Federer and Sharapova move to 2nd round - Venus Williams Goes Home

The Day -1 at Wimbledon saw easy going for most of the players except one set back: the ouster of Venus Williams.

But let us first talk of the easy wins - World no.1 and defending champion Serbian Djokovic beat 

Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 on the Centre Court.

After the men's singles, Roland Garros winner and world no.1 Russian Maria Sharapova defeated Australian Anastasia Rodionova 6-2, 6-3.

On No.1 Court, world no.3 Swiss Roger Federer, who is eyeing the Wimbledon trophy for the seventh times, eased into the second round Albert Ramos of Spain 6-1, 6-1, 6-1.

And now comes the biggest set back of the day. American Venus Williams, though put in some reistance, was not able to tame the Russian Elena Vesnina who beat Williams 6-1, 6-3. Venus was also ousted from the second round of Roland Garros. But ouster from first round must have been very heavy for the American, who her sister Serena claimed was in good form. 

In other matches, 11th ranked Chinese Na Li defeated kazakhistan's Ksenia Pervak 6-3, 6-1 and 18th ranked French Richard Gasquet defeated German Tobias Kamke 6-2, 6-2,6-2.

Federer wins record sixth Tour Finals title

Roger Federer won a record sixth ATP World Tour Finals title with a 6-3, 6-7 (6/8), 6-3 victory over France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on Sunday.

The 30-year-old, who retains the title he won 12 months ago, has now won 70 trophies in his career and has also equalled Lendl's record of 39 match wins in the end-of-season event.

Federer wins Paris Masters Men's Final

It was Federer's day today at the men's final event of Paris Masters. In the absence of Djockovic, Nadal and Murray, winning the final was an easy thing for Federer. He beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-1, 7-6 (3).

The 16-time Grand Slam champion had never previously reached the final in Paris and today's win marks his first in Paris and 69th career win.
