The famous cathedral of Paris, the Notre Dame, catches fire as reported by France 24 today. Details are pouring in.

Known as the Lady of Paris, the cathedral is a landmark of Paris and a favourite tourist attraction. The cathedral is also famous for the epic movie Hunchback of Notre Dame which featured superb performance by late Anthony Quinn.

Protesters boo British PM and blame Tory cuts for the fire that killed dozens

The horrible fire at the Grenfell Tower that killed over 70 people have brought families of those killed on streets who booed the British PM May when she tried to visit them.

The Prime Minister failed to address people demanding a response to the devastating fire and was heavily cordoned by police.

The protesters were heard shouting 'May must go' as they blame Tory cuts for the fire that killed more than 70 people mostly by complete burns and suffocation.

Deaths occurred due to inadequate fire fighting arrangements that could extinguish fire on tall buildings like the Grenfell Tower. The firefighters are seen extinguishing fire with water hoses that barely reached the lower few stories of the ill fated tower which was completely consumed by fire.

Fire engulfs 20 storeys of Dubai's 63 storey hotel near Burj al Khalifa

While this report is being filed, Address Hotel, a hotel near famous Burj Al Khalifa in Dubai has caught fire. Presently 20 of its 63 storeys are engulfed in fierce fire.

The hotel which is full of tourists on account of the new year celebrations is being evacuated of its guests by the rescue services and fire brigade.

It may be added that Dubai is one of the hottest destinations on special occasions like new year eve.

Deadly Blaze kill 13 Children in Burmese Muslim school in Rangoon

A fire at a Muslim school, part of mosque, in the Burmese city of Rangoon has killed 13 children, officials say.

The school sheltering some 75 orphans comes amid an upsurge in violence between Buddhists and Muslims.

Police officers said the fire was caused by an electrical fault and not due to any criminal activity. Most of the children escaped unharmed.

It may be added that at least 40 people have been killed since 20 March and curfews have been imposed in some areas.

The violence follows more widespread clashes last year in Rakhine state between the Buddhist community and Muslim Rohingyas - a stateless minority group not recognized by the Burmese government.

Dhaka Cloth Factory Fire Leaves More than 100 dead

A fire that broke out in a clothes factory on Saturday has left more than 100 dead. Some people died after jumping from the building to escape the flames.

The incident ocured in a multi-floor Tazreen Fashion factory in the Ashulia district on the outskirts of the capital Dhaka.

Firefighters managed to contain the blaze on Sunday morning.

It is unclear what caused the fire, which started on the ground floor trapping many victims in the factory. Officials suspect an electrical short circuit might have caused the disaster.

US Navy ship fire in Gulf kills one

Rising tension in the Gulf has claimed a victim as a civilian boat came under fire from a US Navy ship after getting too close to an American tanker. One person was killed and three others wounded in the incident, say US officials.

The security watch of the US fleet tanker USNS Rappahannock spotted a small white-hulled boat, which continued to approach the ship despite a series of warnings.

“The US crew repeatedly attempted to warn the vessel's operators to turn away from their deliberate approach. When those efforts failed to deter the approaching vessel, the security team on the Rappahannock fired rounds from a .50-caliber machine gun,” said Lt. Greg Raelson, a spokesman for the Navy's Bahrain-based Fifth Fleet.

Ohio Train Derailment Causes Huge Chemical Fire

Firefighters in Ohio are still trying to contain a huge fire ignited after train cars carrying "denatured alcohol" and styrene derailed outside Columbus, Ohio. 

The accident happened shortly after 2:00 a.m.sending 11 of 98 freight cars off the tracks near the Ohio State Fairgrounds, which is also not far from the campus of Ohio State University. At least one of the tanker exploded and caught fire sending, this massive fireball into the sky and continued to burn well into the morning. 

According to news reports, residents have been evacuated within a one-mile radius and hazmat teams are on the scene trying to determine what effects the burning chemicals might have on the air. There are no reports of injuries or deaths so far, as the train was carrying cargo not people.

Fire at nuclear reactor in France

Fire crews have been rushed to a nuclear reactor in northern France after an escape of smoke but the energy company EDF says the site is secure.

Ten fire engines were sent to the Penly site near Dieppe, where the reactor was shut down after the alarm was raised at 12:20 (11:20 GMT).

Nobody was hurt, the firm said, and the incident had "no consequences for the environment".

France obtains 75% of its electricity from nuclear power and the industry's future has become a political issue.

Deadly blaze hits Moscow market

At least 17 people have been killed by a fire that swept through a market warehouse in southern Moscow. 

The victims were migrant workers from former Soviet states, according to the city fire department.

The two-storey building was being used as living quarters for the market vendors, who had no direct access from their room to the street.

The fire at Kachalovsky market came hours after a blaze at a skyscraper in Moscow, in which no-one was hurt.

Remember gales that hit Britain in January earlier this year keeping everyone shivering in cold? But just three months ahead, the rising temperatures have nullified the cold the Brits saw. Now it is fire and smoke that has engulfed many areas in Britain due to severe drought and rising temperatures.

Soaring temperatures and 'tinder box-dry' conditions spark wildfires across countryside as drought spreads. Flames and billowing smoke rise from what looks like a battlefield and paint the night sky.

The devastation comes as the Environment Agency today declared more areas as being officially in drought, following another dry month which has hit rivers and groundwater supplies.

In Newport, South Wales, flames raged across 15 acres of scrubland, coming just yards from homes. Terrified residents were forced to use garden  hose pipes to keep away the blaze, which at times licked their properties.

Fire destroys Brazil's Antarctic research station

The Brazilian military says two soldiers are missing and one is injured after an explosion at its research station in the Antarctic.

The blast was caused by a fire in a machine room at the Comandante Ferraz base, on King George Island, near the tip of the Antarctic Peninsula.

The Brazilian navy said the fire had destroyed the entire station, and was still not under control. More than 30 people were evacuated to a Chilean research station nearby.

Six may be charged for Indian Hospital Fire

Police say that six senior hospital officials are expected to face court for their involvement in the outbreak of fire in the elite Indian hospital Friday.

Javed Khan, head of the fire service in West Bengal state -- of which Kolkata is the capital -- said the incident suggested gross negligence and serious violations of safety norms. "There was a fire in 2008 in the same hospital and we are trying to probe how the authorities got their fire licence renewed," Khan added.

A huge fire at Advanced Medical Research Institute hospital in Kolkata has left 94 dead. The fre broke out Friday morning in the basement of the hospital and spread rapidlly in the hermetically sealed air conditioned building.

The hospital also called AMRI, was state of the art with some of the latest, most precise radiation therapy equipment for patients in its cancer center. It offered special deluxe suites for its wealthiest patients. Its trauma surgery unit was said to be one of the best in eastern India, as well as its highly efficient emergency room.

A fire that broke into a  makeshift 100 feet long tent at a gathering of thousands of eunuchs in the Indian capital on Sunday, killed 13 of them, leaving at least 33 injured. The tragedy struck during a gathering of about 5,000 eunuchs for a prayer ceremony and feast held once every five years.

It may be added that India's estimated 700,000 eunuchs traditionally survive by begging, dancing at weddings, or blessing newborn babies, and frequently are subjected to discrimination, reports Yahoo News.
