Watch Last Lunar Eclipse of 2012 Wednesday Morning
2012's last performance of light and shadow by the Earth-Moon-Sun trio takes place Wednesday morning when the Earth passes between the Sun and Moon creating a "penumbral lunar eclipse."
Assuming the fog or clouds don't blanket the sky, the Bay Area should be able to witness this year's last lunar eclipse Wednesday morning. It will be a "penumbral" eclipse where the outer edge of the Earth's shadow dims the moon's face.
The eclipse will peak around 6:33 a.m. Pacific time, and should be detectable between 6-7 a.m., according to NASA. This assumes that fog or clouds aren't blocking our view of the moon at the time.

The eclipse will not be visible from the Eastern seaboard of the United States since it will occur after moonset there.

Lunar Eclipse: The Moon Shies away from us

Today was the full lunar eclipse and the last eclipse of 2011. Like every year, I also had my camera ready to shoot the moon in its various stages. And here it is how it the journey began from full bright disk to red glowing moon by around 7:15 hours Pakistan Standard Time.
And while watching and shooting, I also prayed for the well being of every living being on earth and also prayed for the end to wars that are everywhere - wars that powers fight to show their muscles away from their lands, in which innocent people get killed by forces unknown to them. Let this last eclipse of 2011 usher in a brighter 2012, which is just days away - a new year free of wars and explosions and exploitation of the weak and meek.

For just under an hour, the disk of the full moon will almost disappear, turning a dark, rusty red. The catch for Americans is that you'll miss almost everything unless you're west of the Mississippi. Totality -- when the moon is completely consumed by Earth's shadow -- begins at 6:06 a.m. Pacific time Saturday, and ends at 6:57 a.m. Even on the Pacific coast, dawn will start to brighten the sky before the eclipse is over.
