Ziarat Residency: Before and after militant's attack

In a shocking after midnight attack, militants armed with automatic weapons and hand grenades forcibly entered the 19th century wooden structured residency at Ziarat and blew it up, after killing the lone police guard.

The building is in Ziarat town, 80km southeast of Quetta, the capital of insurgency-hit Baluchistan province.

The country's founding father Mohammad Ali Jinnah spent his last days in the building, which was declared a national monument following his death, one year after Pakistan's independence in 1947.

Mr Jinnah's belongings and wooden structure no more

Ziarat Residency is completely gutted after the attack and the historical relics belonging to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah are almost razed by the fired.

The fire went on for hours because there was no fire station nearby and fire tenders were called from Quetta.

Malala Yousafzai on path to recovery

Malala Yousafzai, the teenage girl flown to Britain for treatment after being shot in the head by Taliban gunmen in Pakistan, has the potential to make "pretty much a full recovery", her doctors have said.

She is able to stand with help and is writing notes, and although the bullet grazed her brain she has not shown "any deficit in terms of function", doctors at Queen Elizabeth hospital in Birmingham said.

She was "not out of the woods but is doing very well", said Dr Dave Rosser, medical director of the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS foundation trust.

Militants shot girl activist Malala sent to Britain for treatment

Militants shot 14 years old girl activist Malala has been sent to Britain for prolonged treatment and care to fully recover from the physical and psychological effects of trauma that she has received.

"Pakistan has arranged with the UAE for a specially equipped air ambulance to transfer Malala to the UK", a spokesman said in a statement after the United Arab Emirates had told Pakistan it was ready to send a plane to evacuate her.

She was treated at the country's top military hospital in Rawalpindi where doctors on Sunday removed her ventilator for a "successful" short trial.

UAE sending air ambulance for militants shot girl activist

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) plans to send a specialized aircraft to serve as an ambulance for a 14-year-old Pakistani girl shot by the militants in case doctors decide to send her abroad for treatment.

The shooting of Malala Yousufzai along with two classmates while they were on their way home from school on October 9 horrified people in Pakistan and internationally.

She was shot for promoting girl's education and criticizing the militants.

The attack left Yousufzai seriously wounded and sparked calls for the Pakistani government to step up its fight against the militant group.

Visas are being finalized for the air ambulance crew and six doctors who will accompany the flight, Islamabad's Ambassador to the UAE, Jamil Ahmed Khan, told Pakistan's Geo TV on Sunday.

Afghanistan: Two killed at Prince Harry's base

While the safety of British royalties is already been questioned, after shooting of Kate Middleton's scandalous photos, which some experts say could have been fatal as the paparazzo could have a gun instead of a camera, it is Prince Harry's safety in Afghanistan that has surfaced recently. 

The heavily armed insurgents have attacked a British air base in southern Afghanistan, killing two US Marines and wounding several other troops - a base where Prince Harry, third in line to the British throne, is stationed on a four-month combat tour in Afghanistan. There was no immediate word on his whereabouts at the time of the attack.

US officials said the attack on Friday at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan's Helmand province involved a range of insurgent weaponry, possibly including mortars, rockets or rocket-propelled grenades, as well as small arms fire.

Seven Pakistani soldiers feared beheaded taken by militants into Afghanistan

Pakistan military has reported that seven out of 11 soldiers who went missing after a 100-militant strong group  “from a safe haven across the border” infiltrated into Upper Dir and attacked a Pakistani patrol, are reported beheaded by militants in Afghanistan.

Pakistan already reported that six soldiers were killed in gunbattles with militants Sunday who crossed from Afghanistan into the northwestern district of Upper Dir, a key border transit route that neighbours the Swat valley where Pakistan defeated a local Taliban insurgency in 2009.

Pakistan says rebels have regrouped in eastern Afghanistan. Afghan and US officials want Pakistan to eliminate Taliban and al Qaeda-linked havens used to launch attacks in Afghanistan.

Dozens Killed and Wounded in Pakistan Bombing

It was sad and gruesome day in the northern Pakistan when a bomb planted in a pickup truck killed at least 26 people at a market Saturday and wounded 65.

The target in the town of Landi Kotal appeared to be a tribal leader allied with the government against the Pakistani Taliban Hospital officials said 65 people were wounded, most of them fruit and vegetable vendors.

Several houses and shops were damaged in a fire triggered by the blast, the report said. A local television channel quoted witnesses as saying the bomb exploded in a pickup vehicle parked near a bakery.

Kabul under attack

As per a local news TV channel, the Afghan capital Kabul is under attack form militants - their main target is the afghan Parliament building, in which it has been reported some of the militants have entered.

Earlier the city was rocked by seven bombs, followed by attack on the parliament building. The attackers using heavy weapons are also said to have entered the diplomatic enclave in the central district of the capital city and have reportedly captured a hotel near the US embassy. Smoke was said to be billowing from the direction of the German embassy.
