North Korea unveils new ICBM that can hit USA

On the Sun Parade, North Korea has unveiled two ICBMs with one capable of reaching 9,000 miles.

Believed to be similar to the Chinese DF-41, the new North Korean missile is capable of reaching targets in the continental US.

Besides, North Korea also put on the show its new submarine launch ballistic missiles (SLBM). 

The display comes at a time when the war of the words between the USA and North Korea is at its height.

North Korea claims a successful underground hydrogen bomb test

Much to the surprise to the world, North Korea has announced that it has carried out an underground test of the H-bomb.

While the world views the claim with skepticism, it would be North Korea's fourth nuclear test since 2006 and mark a major upgrade in its capabilities.

Outrightly, UN chief Ban Ki-moon condemned the test "unequivocally", calling it "profoundly destabilising for regional security".

However 5, a South Korean politician, Lee Cheol-woo, said he was briefed by the country's intelligence agency that the blast "probably falls short" of a hydrogen detonation.

Pak-China joint production JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft at Dubai Airshow

JF-17 Thunder, the Pakistan-China jointly developed fighter aircraft has been put on display at the Dubai Air Show. 

The Pakistan Air Chief attending the airshow has been quoted as saying that the participation of Pakistan Air Force in this airshow is a matter of great pride for us and many countries in general and Islamic countries in particular have shown interest in the JF-17 Thunder aircraft.

The Dubai Air Show was inaugurated by Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai and Prime Minister of UAE.

China displays impressive WWII Victory Parade

An impressive military parade was held in the Chinese capital Beijing to commemorate the victory over Japan of WWII. Among many dignitaries, Russia's Vladimir Putin was prominently seen.

The parade was held at the famous Tiananmen Square and besides impressive display of goose-stepping soldiers of combat units, the parade also included , a stream of tanks, ballistic missiles, drones.

Chinese president Xi called the parade a demonstration of China's devotion to peace.

"In the interest of peace, China will remain committed to peaceful development. We Chinese love peace. No matter how much stronger it may become, China will never seek hegemony or expansion," said the Chinese president.

Senior Indian military officer court marshalled for leaking plans to ISI

It has been reported by the India Today that Indian Army's movement plans were leaked to Pakistan's premier intelligence agency ISI last year. 

Reprtedly, the ISI was aware of the details of talks between Army chief General Bikram Singh and then defence minister AK Antony.

As per the reports, General Singh and Antony had discussed the troop movement on February 15, 2014 at 11 am and lasted for an hour. The meeting took place in Antony's room. The Indian Army was planning the movement on Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir border.

The meeting took place at 12 noon but within a few hours, Pakistan Army was reported to be redeploying its troops as a countermeasure. It was then revealed that a senior Indian military officer in Indian Army headquarters had supplied the information. 

The officer was later court marshalled.

Pakistan Army inducts first batch of indgeniously produced strategic drones

Today, it is the second news about drones development. In the morning we shared news about the stealth drone 'Sharp Sword' developed by China.

Now it is has been reported by Pakistan's ISPR that Pakistan today inducted the 1st fleet of indigenously developed Strategic Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), namely Burraq and Shahpar UAV Systems in Pakistan Army and Pakistan Air Force. It is a landmark and historic event, wherein a very effective force multiplier has been added to the inventory of the Armed Forces.


In the future these UAVs could also be gainfully employed in various socio-economic development projects, as well.

The ceremony was attended by General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief of Army Staff, Air Chief Marshal Tahir Rafique Butt, Chief of the Air Staff, Lieutenant General (Retd) Khalid Ahmed Kidwai, Director General Strategic Plans Division and senior officers from Armed Forces, scientists and engineers.

General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief of Army Staff, while appreciating the work of NESCOM scientists and engineers, highlighted that induction of indigenously developed surveillance capable UAVs in Pakistan Armed Forces is a force multiplier, and will substantially enhance their target acquisition capabilities in real time.

China inducts first stealth frigate in its navy

While Australian tycoon has unveiled his plan to replicate Titanic 100 years after the biggest sea liner that sailed and sank on ts maiden journey from London to New York, China is reported to have inducted the first stealth frigate in its navy on Monday in Shanghai, which is home to one of the country's largest complexes of naval shipyards, according to the official Xinhua News Agency and the navy's official website.

The helicopter-equipped ships feature a sleek design to reduce clutter and make them harder to spot by radar and are armed with anti-ship and anti-aircraft missiles. They also need a crew of just 60, two-thirds fewer than older vessels, a major advantage that should boost efficiency and relieve burdens in training and recruitment. 

At 1,440 tons fully loaded, the stealth frigate is considerably smaller than U.S. Navy frigates, and is categorized by some observers as a member of the smaller class of ship known as corvettes.

The People's Liberation Army Navy is building a total of 20 Type 056 Jiangdao class frigates to replace older models and bolster its ability to conduct patrols and escort ships and submarines in waters it claims in the South China and East China seas.

Maiden Landing of J-15 Jet on China's new aircraft carrier

There were lot of cheers and clapping on Liaoning, China's first aircraft carrier, when a J-15 fighter jet landed on the carrier for the first time.

The Chinese-made J-15 fighter landed on the 300m (990ft) former Soviet carrier during recent exercises, China's defence ministry said on Sunday.

The Liaoning, China's first aircraft carrier, entered into service in September.

Analysts say the aircraft carrier will allow Beijing to help project its military might in territorial disputes.

Israel shoots down mysterious drone

The Israeli air force  shot down a drone after it crossed into southern Israel, the military says, but it remains unclear where the aircraft had come from.

The drone was first spotted above the Mediterranean in the area of the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip to the west of Israel, said military spokeswoman Avital Leibovich.

It was kept under surveillance and followed by Israeli air force jets before it was shot down above a forest in an unpopulated area near the border with the occupied West Bank.

Leibovich said it was shot down at about 10am (local time), after it travelled east some 55 kilometres across Israel's southern Negev desert.

China's first aircraft carrier commissioned

China's first aircraft carrier was delivered and commissioned to the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy Tuesday, according to report by National Defense Ministry's official website.

Overseen by President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao, the carrier, with a name of "Liaoning" and hull number 16, was officially handed over at a ceremony held in a naval base of northeast China's Dalian Port.

President Hu, also chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), endorsed a PLA flag and naming certificate to Senior Captain Zhang Zheng, commanding officer of China's first carrier, the Liaoning.

"Today will be forever remembered as China's Navy has entered an era of aircraft carrier," Zhang told Xinhua on the carrier's flight deck.

US Army's Perfectly Functioning Eye in the Sky

Both the MOP bomb and the B1 bombers have received modifications recently and now Raytheon's announced they are fielding another well-suited tool for a for a battle in someplace like the Strait of Hormuz.

The Joint Land Attack Cruise Missile Defense Elevated Netted Sensor System (JLENS) is an 243 helium filled balloon that Raytheon says is ideal for monitoring, "Swarming boats, anti-ship cruise missiles, and mine laying ships."

If that combination of attacks sounds familiar, it should. Iran's Republican Guard is famous for its swarming speed boat attacks, array of anti-ship missiles, and its proclivity for mining the Strait of Hormuz.

The JLENS system can track these threats for 30 days at a time, from hundred of miles away, and at 10,000 feet above the ground.

Army soldiers have been trained to use the system and it's prepared to be moved into the field and used in unnamed locations.

UN finally turns towards atrocities against Muslims in Myanmar

The United Nations spotlight has finally fell on Myanmar. By taking note of human rights excesses and killings of Muslims in the Southeast Asian country, the world body has made a decent beginning.

This is a welcome development after a prolonged criminal silence over the mayhem that the Buddhist population was unleashing over the Muslim minority in Rohingya. The UN human rights chief Navi Pillay’s institution of an independent investigation to probe into the abuses that has seen hundreds of Muslims slaughtered and more than 80,000 displaced in Rakhine state should get to its logical conclusion. 

The silence and aloofness of the democrats, including Noble laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, has literally disappointed not only the Burmese but also the world at large. It is high time she comes out of her self-carved domain of political and ethnic exigency and speaks out in favour of the discriminated community.

Israel preparing for military intervention in Syria in case Syria hands weapons to Hezbollah

Israel is preparing for a possible military intervention in Syria in case the Syrian government hands missiles or chemical weapons to the Lebanese militant movement Hezbollah, Defence Minister Ehud Barak said on Friday.

“I have instructed the military to increase its intelligence preparations and prepare what is needed so that … (if necessary) … we will be able to consider carrying out an operation,” Barak said in an interview on Channel 10 television.

“We are following … the possible transfer of advanced munitions systems, mainly anti-aircraft missiles or heavy ground-to-ground missiles, but there could also be a possibility of the transfer of chemical means (weapons) from Syria to Lebanon,” he added.

US Navy ship fire in Gulf kills one

Rising tension in the Gulf has claimed a victim as a civilian boat came under fire from a US Navy ship after getting too close to an American tanker. One person was killed and three others wounded in the incident, say US officials.

The security watch of the US fleet tanker USNS Rappahannock spotted a small white-hulled boat, which continued to approach the ship despite a series of warnings.

“The US crew repeatedly attempted to warn the vessel's operators to turn away from their deliberate approach. When those efforts failed to deter the approaching vessel, the security team on the Rappahannock fired rounds from a .50-caliber machine gun,” said Lt. Greg Raelson, a spokesman for the Navy's Bahrain-based Fifth Fleet.

Egypt's President Mohamed Morsi began his first full day in office on Sunday with his powers circumscribed by the military as he tries to pick a new cabinet to carry out his campaign pledges.

Seven Pakistani soldiers feared beheaded taken by militants into Afghanistan

Pakistan military has reported that seven out of 11 soldiers who went missing after a 100-militant strong group  “from a safe haven across the border” infiltrated into Upper Dir and attacked a Pakistani patrol, are reported beheaded by militants in Afghanistan.

Pakistan already reported that six soldiers were killed in gunbattles with militants Sunday who crossed from Afghanistan into the northwestern district of Upper Dir, a key border transit route that neighbours the Swat valley where Pakistan defeated a local Taliban insurgency in 2009.

Pakistan says rebels have regrouped in eastern Afghanistan. Afghan and US officials want Pakistan to eliminate Taliban and al Qaeda-linked havens used to launch attacks in Afghanistan.

Muslim Brotherhood’s Morsy wins Egyptian presidency

Mohamed Morsy of the Muslim Brotherhood was declared Egypt’s first democratic president on Sunday by the state election committee, which said he had defeated former general Ahmed Shafik with 51.7 percent of last weekend’s run-off vote.

He succeeds Hosni Mubarak, who was overthrown 16 months ago after a popular uprising. The military council which has ruled the biggest Arab nation since then has this month curbed the powers of the presidency, meaning the head of state will have to work closely with the army on a planned democratic constitution.

Thousands of Brotherhood supporters burst into cheers on Cairo’s Tahrir Square, waving national flags, setting off fireworks and chanting “Allahu Akbar!” or God is Great, greeting a dramatic victory, tempered by the army’s continuing role. “Say! Don’t fear! The military must go!” crowds chanted.

Pakistan test fires Hatf VIII Ra'ad Stealth ALCM

Pakistan conducted a successful test flight of the indigenously developed air-launched cruise missile, Hatf-VIII (Ra’ad) on Thursday.

A statement issued by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the Ra’ad Missile, with a range of over 350km, enables Pakistan to achieve strategic standoff capability on land and at sea.

‘Cruise technology’ is extremely complex and has been developed by only a few countries in the world.

The Ra’ad cruise missile with stealth capabilities is a low altitude, terrain-hugging missile with high maneuverability, and can deliver nuclear and conventional warheads with pin point accuracy.

N Korea 'showed off fake missiles'

The military parade was merely "a nice dog and pony show", two German experts have said. One of the missiles on show in Kim Il-Sung Square on April 15 - transported on a launcher of apparent Chinese design - seemed to be a new addition to the nuclear-armed country's long-range arsenal, according to analysts at the time.

But Markus Schiller and Robert H. Schmucker, of Schmucker Technologie, said all six of the road-mobile intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) on show that day were models.

North Korea long-range rocket launch fails after one minute

North Korea has launched a long-range rocket that disintegrated shortly after blast-off, South Korean authorities say. South Korea's Defence Ministry said the rocket was launched at 7.39am (8.39am AEST) today, but failed shortly after.

"A few minutes after the launch, the rocket disintegrated into several pieces and lost its altitude," Defence Ministry spokesman Kim Min-Seok told journalists. 

This will be North Korea's second consecutive failure to get a satellite into orbit, although it claimed success with a 2009 launch.
