Millionaire jailed for 17 years for murdering wife

A millionaire businessman was yesterday jailed for life after he was convicted of stabbing his ex-wife in the heart as she wrote a diary about his intimidating behaviour.

Lawyers for Susan Workman, 55, were insisting her ex-husband Ian pay her £1.4million, and give her the couple’s £700,000 converted farmhouse near Bolton.

The car dealer claimed she lunged at him with a kitchen knife during a furious row over the divorce settlement, but yesterday a jury at Preston Crown Court convicted him of murder.

Workman, 58, was ordered to serve a minimum of 17-and-a-half years in jail. He sobbed after the verdict and as he was led to the cells turned to his sons Ben, 22, and Nick, 18, insisting: ‘I didn’t do it boys, I didn’t do it.’

Stop that coffin!

In a rare and surprising "move" by detectives a coffin of a millionaire was STOPPED just before burial.

The coffin was that of businessman and millionaire Andrew Paterson, 58, a fugitive on the run from  justice for 25 years was finally "caught" - albeit dead. He was to be buried back home in a village of Wales, when detectives got wind of his "arrival."

The detectives allowed the halted burial services to be resumed only after they had taken fingerprints for keeping record straight. His three wives and six children were in attendance.
