Roger Federer beat Nadal to win the Australian Open 2017

Oh boy what a match it was today between the two tennis giants; The seventeen times Grand Slam winner Roger Federer and fourteen times Grand Slam title holder Rafael Nadal.

As I wrote yesterday that age does not matter for some, it is true for America's Serena Williams and Swiss Roger Federer. Like Serena Williams, the same age 35-year-old Federer claimed his eighteenth Grand Slam title by beating Nadal 6-4 3-6 6-1 3-6 6-3.

But for Federer the match was not easy as Nadal, coming back to finals after years of injuries preventing him to climb up the ladder. Nadal and Federer won one set after the other and it was the fifth set in which Nadal finally gave away the title to Federer.


It was federer's fifth Australian title, which also takes him on top of the world list as for men's single titles are concerned.

Australian Open Grand Finale: Nadal all set to regain lost glory - meets Federer in the final

Rafael Nadal of Spain won a stunning victory to reach the  final of the on going Australian Open tennis.

Nadal beat G. Dimitrov 6-3 5-7 7-6 (7-5) 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 in a match that lasted almost five hours.

Now the test ahead of his fitness ahead is the grand finale in which he meets 35 years Swiss Roger Federer, who too is looking for a Grand Slam title to start his tennis year with another feather in his cap. 

Nadal, who is attempting to win a 15th major title, has faced Federer 34 times, winning 23 matches. This also includes the 2009 Australian title which he won while playing Federer.

Australian Open 2017: Nadal in his first Grand Slam semis in years

Rafael Nadal, the fourteen times Grand Slam winner, has qualified for a Grand Slam final since 2014 after beating Milos Raonic.

The Spaniard bat his Canadian opponent 6-4 7-6 (9-7) 6-4. He now faces 15th seed Grigor Dimitrov on Friday.

Nadal seems to have overcome his injuries that are plaguing him in recent years and have prevented him from defending any of his title. 

If all goes well, Nadal may regain his 2009 title by defeating 35 years old roger Federer who plays his semi against fellow countryman Stan Wawrink on Thursday.

Nadal ousted from First Round of Australian Open 2016

Nothing could have been as bad for once world number 1 rafael Nadal when he lost his first round match of Australian Open today. Many have started doubting Nadal's future tennis career already.

Now down to world number 5 due to his successive failures, Nadal found is hard to win his first round match against fellow Spanish left-hander Fernando Verdasco in a well fought five-set match, which Verdasco finally won 7-6 (8/6), 4-6, 3-6, 7-6 (7/4), 6-2. The match lasted four hours and 41 minutes.

It was the first time Nadal had lost in the opening round of a major tournament since his shock loss to Steve Darcis at Wimbledon in 2013.

Nadal beat world no.1 Djokovic 3-2 to defend his French Open title Sunday

Oh boy, it was really a final like semi final between the defending champion Rafael Nadal and the last year's finalist and world no.1 Novak Djokovic Friday, which just finished moments ago.

Nadal beat Djokovic in a thriller five set match. Having won two sets each, the last set was no one's guess as to who will win since both players displayed a superb and champions like game - till Nadal won 9-7. Final score: 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 6(3)-7(7) and 9-7.

Here it may be added that Nadal beat Djokovic in the French Open final last year - and Djokovic very badly needed to win the French Open as he has never won Paris in his career.

Nadal will now face winner of the second semi final between Ferrer and Tsonga which will begin some times later today.

Rafael Nadal wins Roland Garros for the record Seventh time

World No.3 and the defending champion Spaniard Rafael Nadal won the men's single Roland Garros title for the seventh time to become the only tennis player in the history of Roland Garros.

Rafael Nadal beat world no.1 Novak Djokovic  6-3, 6-4 6-3 2-6, 7-5. 

The match was stopped due to rain Sunday afternoon when Nadal was winning 6-3, 6-4 6-3 2-6, 1-2. as the match started Monday afternoon, it took less than one hour for Nadal to finish the match 6-3, 6-4 6-3 2-6, 7-5.

By losing today's match, Djokovic loses a life time chance to make history and become only the third man to have bagged all four major Grand Slam titles.

French Open men's final between Nadal and Djokovic suspended due to rain

The French Open men's final between Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic was suspended due to rain on Sunday evening.

Nadal was leading 6-4 6-3 2-6 1-2* when the match referee called the players off court at 5:51pm (6:51pm local time). The players were also off court for 35 minutes during the second set.

Victory for Nadal would make him the first man to win seven titles in Paris, one more than Bjorn Borg,while Djokovic could emulate Rod Laver and Don Budge by holding all four grand slam titles at once.

The match will now be held on Monday.

Nadal has faced Djokovic for 32 times since they first played the French Open quarterfinal in 2006 - Nadal won 6-4, 6-4 when Djokovic retired. Nadal also won their last encounter at Rome Final recently, when Nadal beat Djokovic 7-5, 6-3.

Spain to sue French TV over Nadal skit

Spain's tennis federation said Wednesday it will sue French TV broadcaster Canal+ over a sketch which implied that Rafael Nadal and other Spanish athletes use performance-enhancing drugs.

The sketch featured a likeness of world number two Nadal being pulled over by police for speeding after he filled the gas tank of his car from his own bladder.

At the end of the sketch appeared the message: "Spanish athletes. They do not win by chance," along with the logos of the tennis federation and several other Spanish sports bodies.

Nadal wins BBC Overseas Sports Personality award

Spanish Rafeal Nadal men's World number one tennis player has been awarded with BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the Year award.

It has been a dream run for the 24 year old from Mallorca, with winning three Grand Slams this year, as well as three Masters title which. 

The winning of the US open had ushered a new dawn in the tennis history by becoming only the seventh player to achieve the feat in a record breaking time. Hence making him the youngest to achieve this feat.

Spain to be defenseless in Davis Cup next year

Spain will face the brunt of tough Davis Cup 2012 as both Nadal and Ferrrer have shown their inability to be available for the event.

For Nadal, 2012 is the Olympic year and he wants to concentrate fully on the great sport event. Ferrer 29 says his five-year tour of Davis Cup duty was virtually over.

Spain wins Davis Cup after Nadal-Del Potro epic

Rafeal Nadal went through rigorous 1-6 6-4 6-1 7-6 (7-0) test against the Argentinian giant Del Potro to win the Davis Cup for Spain. 

It was many times the tale of story was inching towards DelPotro, but Nadal on his favourite surface with his utter resilience changed the course of the match. 

Del Potro was left in tears at the end after playing some of the most powerful tennis ever seen on a court. The crucial fourth set swung this way and that, but Nadal put the closing lines of the book with an emotional tie-breaker to seek Spain home with Davis Cup.

In a stunning match between Tsonga and Nadal in Group B Decider, Tsonga ousted Nadal of ATP Finals by defeating Nadal 7-6 (2), 4-6, 6-3. The Frenchman now joins Roger Federer in the last four of the season-ending tournament.

The tall Frenchman used his powerful ground strokes to dictate play against Nadal and tried to speed up rallies by using a serve-and-volley approach that the Spaniard struggled to counter.

Rafeal Nadal, out from any competitive tennis since October 13, had a test of his nerves and strength against Mardy Fish at the final of ATP Tour Sunday night. Despite a tough competition and resistance from American world number eight Mardy, Nadal battled hard to fish out Mardy from the tournmanet and won the final 6-2 3-6 7-6 (7-3).

The battled raged for two hours and 53 minutes and it was s a delight for the crowd to witness a enthralling competition.
