B-1B USAF Bombers' 10 Hours Hover over Korean Peninsula Escalate Tensions

The war hysteria seems to be gearing up in the Korean Peninsula as USAF two B-1B bombers hover the Korean Peninsula for about 10 hours.

In retaliation North Korea warned it was 'carefully examining' plans to make 'an enveloping fire' around Guam, the USA base from where the bombers flew. Later North Korea said the training mission 'proves that the U.S. imperialists are nuclear war maniacs.'

On the other side, US officials claim that North Korea has built a miniaturized warhead and has an arsenal of 60 nuclear bombs.

The war arming seems escalating after the US President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un made unprecedented threats to trade devastating missile strikes.

North Korea claims a successful underground hydrogen bomb test

Much to the surprise to the world, North Korea has announced that it has carried out an underground test of the H-bomb.

While the world views the claim with skepticism, it would be North Korea's fourth nuclear test since 2006 and mark a major upgrade in its capabilities.

Outrightly, UN chief Ban Ki-moon condemned the test "unequivocally", calling it "profoundly destabilising for regional security".

However 5, a South Korean politician, Lee Cheol-woo, said he was briefed by the country's intelligence agency that the blast "probably falls short" of a hydrogen detonation.

Kim Jong executes his defence minister with an anti-aircraft gun - for dozing off

This may be the most weird news coming from North Korea  - something not heard of before: the defence minister (above right) has been publicly executed with an ZPU-4 anti-aircraft gun for falling asleep during military meetings and answering back to leader Kim Jong-Un.

The 66 years old general was named head of North Korea's military in 2012.

It may be added that it is not the first time a ZPU-4 anti-aircraft gun has been used for executions in North Korea, with recently released satellite images showing a number of unidentified people being killed using the brutal method at the same camp last October.

North Korea fires short-range missiles off east coast

North Korea is reported to have fired three short-range missiles off its east coast Saturday, reports LA Times.

The South Korean Defense Ministry reported that it detected two launches in the morning and another in the afternoon. Its initial assessment was that the missiles were short-range surface-to-ship or surface-to-surface missiles capable of traveling up to 72 miles, rather than the new medium-range Musudan missile that analysts fear could threaten U.S. troops in Guam or Okinawa, Japan.

"All missiles launched fell into the sea," a South Korean Defense Ministry official was quoted as telling the country's official Yonhap news service. He also speculated that the launches, directed over water northeast of North Korea, were part of a military exercise.

North Korean Army receives final approval to launch nuclear strikes against USA

US Air Force F-22 stealth fighter jet takes off from a base in South Korea

The war of words seem to be climbing a new hype after the North Korean Army reported Wednesday that it had received final approval to launch 'merciless' nuclear strikes against the United States.

The General Staff of the Korean People's Army said it was formally notifying Washington that U.S. threats would be 'smashed by... cutting-edge smaller, lighter and diversified nuclear strike means,' according to a statement published by the official KCNA news agency.

The pronouncement came just hours after U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said North Korea presented a 'clear and present danger' to the U.S. and its allies after days of escalating rhetoric.

In the meanwhile, Chinese troops have been placed on a heightened state of alert along the country's frontier with North Korea after a series of warlike statements and actions from the pariah state.

War with South Imminent: Cautions North Korea

The war of the words seems to adding to the looming shadows of war as the North cautiosn South of an imminent war.

It is reported that North Korea is to cut the last channel of communications with the South because war could break out at "any moment", it said on Wednesday, days of after warning the United States and South Korea of nuclear attack.

The move is the latest in a series of bellicose threats from North Korea in response to new U.N. sanctions imposed after its third nuclear test in February and to "hostile" military drills under way joining the United States and South Korea.

It may be added that the North has already stopped responding to calls on the hotline to the U.S. military that supervises the heavily armed Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) and the Red Cross line that has been used by the governments of both sides.

China reportedly agrees with US for sanctions on North Korea

Although an ally of North Korea, China is reported to have reached an agreement with USA to impose new sanctions on North Korea for its latest nuclear test, as Pyongyang threatened to disregard the armistice that ended its 1950 to 1953 war with South Korea.

The United Nations Security Council holds closed-door consultations on North Korea Tuesday and diplomats told reporters they hope for a vote on the proposed resolution by the end of the week. Details of the draft measure were not immediately available.

It may be added that the UN Security Council has already condemned unanimously the February 12 nuclear test and has termed it as a "grave violation" of existing U.N. sanctions on North Korea's nuclear and missile programs.

Meanwhile, North Korea stepped up its rhetoric Tuesday, threatening to scrap the armistice signed in 1953 if Seoul goes ahead with plans to conduct annual war exercises with the United States. The Korean People's Army Supreme Command warned of "surgical strikes" meant to unify the divided Korean Peninsula.

North Korea 'tells' China of more nuclear tests

North Korea conducted its third nuclear test on Tuesday, is reported to have told its key ally China  that it is prepared to stage one or even two more nuclear tests this year in an effort to force the United States into diplomatic talks, said a source with direct knowledge of the message.

Further tests could also be accompanied this year by another rocket launch, said the source, who has direct access to the top levels of government in both Beijing and Pyongyang.

"It's all ready. A fourth and fifth nuclear test and a rocket launch could be conducted soon, possibly this year," the source said, adding that the fourth nuclear test would be much larger than the third, at an equivalent of 10 kilotons of TNT.

The tests will be undertaken, the source said, unless Washington holds talks with North Korea and abandons its policy of what Pyongyang sees as attempts at regime change.

Major Agriculture Reforms likely in North Korea

A source close to both Pyongyang and Beijing told Reuters' Benjamin Kang Lim that farmers will soon be allowed to keep half their crop:
"Peasants will have incentive to grow more food. They can keep and sell in the market about 30-50 percent of their harvest depending on the region,"
The move appears to be an attempt to lightly reform the North Korean economy so that the famines of the 1990s would not be repeated.
The incentive would mark a reversal of a clampdown on private enterprise that began in 2005, and appears to be directed at rising rice prices widely reported by overseas press.

N Korea 'showed off fake missiles'

The long-range ballistic missiles displayed at a North Korean military parade this month were mock-ups.

German experts claim that the ballistic missiles paraded in Pyongyang were fakes [Picture: AP / News]

The military parade was merely "a nice dog and pony show", two German experts have said. One of the missiles on show in Kim Il-Sung Square on April 15 - transported on a launcher of apparent Chinese design - seemed to be a new addition to the nuclear-armed country's long-range arsenal, according to analysts at the time.

But Markus Schiller and Robert H. Schmucker, of Schmucker Technologie, said all six of the road-mobile intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) on show that day were models.

North Korea threatens to reduce Seoul to ashes with 'unusual methods'

North Korea's military yesterday made an extraordinary threat of "special actions" soon to turn parts of the South Korean capital to ashes, accusing Seoul's conservative government of defaming its leadership.

The North said its targets were "the Lee Myung-Bak group of traitors, the arch criminals, and the group of rat-like elements including conservative media destroying the mainstay of the fair public opinion".

It said the actions "will reduce all... to ashes in three or four minutes... by unprecedented peculiar means and methods of our own style".

N.Korea Scraps Deal with US

North Korea said Tuesday it is no longer bound by a Feb. 29 agreement with the U.S. pledging to halt missile and nuclear arms development in exchange for food aid.

"Since the U.S. violated the Feb. 29 agreement with its undisguised hostile acts, we will no longer be bound to it," North Korea's Foreign Ministry said. "The U.S. will be held wholly accountable for all the ensuing consequences," it added.

A government source here said the comments hint at an imminent nuclear test by the North. Pyongyang agreed on Feb. 29 to halt uranium enrichment and allow IAEA inspectors to return.

The North issued the statement a day after the UN Security Council "strongly condemned" the North for launching what it claims was a space rocket on Friday and tightened sanctions. Pyongyang accused the U.S. of abusing its position as the chair of the UNSC to deny Pyongyang's right to develop its defense and civilian space programs.

North Korean leader's first public speech

The new leader addressed his nation and the world for the first time yesterday, vowing to place top priority on his impoverished country's military, which promptly unveiled a new long-range missile.
Kim Jong Un's speech was the culmination of two weeks of celebrations marking the centenary of the birth of his grandfather, national founder Kim Il Sung -- festivities that were marred by a failed launch Friday of a rocket that generated international condemnation and cost North Korea a food aid-for-nuclear-freeze deal with Washington.

The speech took the thousands in Kim Il Sung Square and around televisions across the country by surprise. His father, the late leader Kim Jong Il, addressed the public only once in his lifetime.

North Korea long-range rocket launch fails after one minute

North Korea has launched a long-range rocket that disintegrated shortly after blast-off, South Korean authorities say. South Korea's Defence Ministry said the rocket was launched at 7.39am (8.39am AEST) today, but failed shortly after.

"A few minutes after the launch, the rocket disintegrated into several pieces and lost its altitude," Defence Ministry spokesman Kim Min-Seok told journalists.

This will be North Korea's second consecutive failure to get a satellite into orbit, although it claimed success with a 2009 launch.

N. Korea prepares 3rd nuclear test [Report]

Recent satellite images show North Korea is digging a new underground tunnel in what appears to be preparation for a third nuclear test, South Korean intelligence officials say.
The excavation at the northeast Punggye-ri site, where nuclear tests were conducted in 2006 and 2009, is in its final stages, according to a report by intelligence officials shared yesterday with The Associated Press.
Its release comes as North Korea prepares to launch a long-range rocket that Washington and others say is a cover for testing missile technology that could be used to fire on the United States.

The Obama administration said Monday it would consider both a rocket launch and an underground nuclear test as highly provocative and leave Pyongyang more isolated.
