Pakistan's Sharmeen bags her second Oscar for a girl in the river

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, a journalist, activist and filmmaker from Pakistan, known for her heart moving documentaries about social injustices, specially against women, bagged her second Oscar award at the 88th annual awards ceremony.

Her Oscar winning documentary "A girl in the river: The Price of Forgiveness." The documentary is about the on honour killings and follows the story of a teenage girl shot in the face by her own family.





Chinoy in her heart moving Oscar speech praised “all the brave men out there, like my father and my husband, who push women to go to school and work and who want a more just society for women.”

She had earlier won the Oscar for her documentary "Saving Face" in 1984 - the first ever Oscar for Pakistan.

Stars arrive at ALL WHITE Oscar Show

At the time of writing the post, stars are arriving on the red carpet for the All White 2016 Oscar night.

Among others, Leonardo DiCaprio is expected to take home his first Oscar, for best actor for his massive role in the Revenant - a film which is also likely to bag the best picture and best director awards.





Meanwhile, the ceremony is being boycotted by some Hollywood elites who are protesting about the lack of ethnic diversity among this year's nominees as all 20 nominees in the best acting or supporting acting categories are white.

Jennifer Lawrence's big dress trips her to a fall as she climbs to accept big 'Best Actress' Oscar


Every year during their Oscars, there is something that happens beyond the control of the recipeients - a malfunctioning dress, a lossned revealing strap or a fall.

This year, it was it happened to Jennifer Lawrence.


Jennifer Lawrence's big dress came in her way to collect her big award as she tripped over the gigantic dress while climbing the steps to collect her 'Best Actress' Oscar.

As she staggered to her feet the star-studded audience leapt up to give the blushing actress a standing ovation, much to her embarrassment.






'Thank you so much,' she told them. 'This is nuts. You guys are only standing up because I fell and you feel bad. That was embarrassing.'

Jennifer also thanked her co-stars, crew and team for their support before wishing her fellow nominee, Amour star Emmanuelle Riva a happy 86th birthday.

Winners of 2013 Academy Awards


February, the 24th February was the Red Carpet night and the night of those geting their Oscars. "life of Pi" which had 11 nominations, collected four Oscars for Cinematography, Directing, Music (Original Score) and Visual Effects. "Les Misérables" and "Agro", which was also declared as the Best Picture of the year, collected three Oscars each.

Michele Obama announced the best picture winner.

The lucky winners of the coveted Oscar Awards or the Academy Awards for the year 2013 are as under:

  • Actor in Leading Role - Daniel Day-Lewis, "Lincoln"
  • Actress in Leading Role - Jennifer Lawrence, "Silver Linings Playbook"

  • Actress In A Supporting Role - Anne Hathaway, "Les Misérables"

Watch Live: The 85th Academy Awards Red Carpet Tonight


Like every year, Hollywood Boulevard is a flurry of activity outside the Dolby Theatre at this time of the year, where the Oscars will be held Sunday night.

And who is the host of Sunday's On the Red Carpet Show- well none other than George Pennacchio, whoc has been on the red carpet for more than 20 years.

A jubilant and exciting Pennacchio says ahead of the ceremony:
"If there is one red carpet you want to be first on, it's the Oscars - And we are first. So when the stars come out, they come to me first."
For the Grand Show, 10,000 passes have been issued. Besides for the coverage of this mega event of the world of entertainment, there's media from around the world and of course the stars, specially the females in readying their glittering, revealing and attractive attire for the Oscars.

And one last thing: The Oscar's official website has already released the nominees list for the fans and the viewers to play the My Pick - a chance for the fans and viewers to show their rating and winning stars.
