Pakistan Polls 2018: Imran Khan's Party in Majority to form Government in the Center

The general elections for Pakistan's national and provincial assemblies were held on 25th July simultaneously all over the country. As per the provisional results available, cricketer turned politician Imran Khan's party Pakistan Tehreek e  Insaf (TI, The Justice Party) is in lead with a vast margin, followed by PML (N), the party of deposed and jailed ex prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

The EU monitoring Committee in its initial report has showed its satisfaction over the conduct of elections and found the conduct better than what they observed in 2013 elections which were marred with allegations of rigging and misconduct.

Imran Khan's party has also showed a major presence in the province of Punjab, following very closely behind the PML(N). Imran's party has also obtained simple majority in the KPK province. In Sind province, former president Asif Zardari's party PPPP has had a dominating edge, though Imran's party has also shown a significant presence.

Pakistan to issue special coins in Dr Ruth Pfau’s honour

Pakistan government has directed its State Bank to issue special coins in Dr Ruth Pfau’s honour.

The State Bank of Pakistan will issue 50,000 coins worth Rs. 50 in recognition of Dr Pfau who dedicated her life to fighting leprosy in the country.

It may be recalled that Dr Ruth came to Pakistan in the early 1960s and decided to adopt Pakistan as her home and dedicating her life to taking care of leprosy patients. 

She was granted Pakistani citizenship in 1988 and received numerous accolades for her services, including the country’s top civilian awards Hilal-i-Imtiaz and Hilal-i-Pakistan.

She passed away on August 10, 2017 at the age of 87.  Dr Pfau is the second person to be accorded a state funeral in 29 years. The previous state funeral was offered for late philanthropist Abdul Sattar Edhi in 2016.

Braille Burgers From Wimpy 'Let Blind People See' Food' (VIDEO)

Here is something which one can say real innovation:

....... Wimpy had its chefs painstakingly adorn 15 burger buns with sesame seeds spelling out various messages in Braille. (For example: "100% Pure Beef Burger Made For You.") Wimpy then brought burgers using those buns to three institutions for the seeing impaired around South Africa and gave the burgers to 15 blind people. 

The company filmed these peoples' reactions and made a commercial out of it. The end of the commercial [SPOILER ALERT!] claims that social media spread the positive reactions of the 15 people to a total of 800,000 others.

Marriage Rush marks China 'Super Singles Day'

Thousands of couples across China have opted to get married on what is being called "Super Singles Day," reports BBC China. Shanghai alone had more than 3,300 couples who booked to get married.

The young couples celebrated it on 11 November as the date contains only the number one, which can mean "bare sticks" in Chinese and refer to bachelors.

Danica May Camacho, a baby girl, born to a Manila family, became the 7 billionth human Monday. She was born in a crowded hospital and welcomed with a cake marked "7B Philippines." She was welcomed with photographers' flashes and gifts.

In Bangladesh, authorities named another baby girl the world's seven billionth child. Weighing 2.75 kilos and named Oishee, she arrived a minute after midnight at a hospital in the capital Dhaka. While another newborn girl, Nargis, was hailed as a seven-billionth baby, born at 7:25 AM in the village of Mall in Uttar Pradesh, India's most populous state.

Isn't it a coincidence that all three three 7-billionth births are baby girls?

Britain is No Place to Grow Old

Although people look up to the once mighty Great Britain for values, traditions and etiquette, many would be aghast to know that people beyond the age of 70 are considered as a burden on health services in Britain. Two out of five senior citizens lament that they have been treated with lack of respect for being old. And most interesting of all is that anyone over 35 is considered to have gone past his/her youth Britain.

The recent survey that took into account the views of 55,000 people in Europe, also reveals that more than half of Britons do not have a single friend over the age of 70. In contrast, two thirds of people in Portugal, Switzerland and Germany have a friend aged 70 or more.

We will be part of 7 billion soon

Just 12 year before, we were 6 billion living on planet earth. But in days we will be 7 billion, a UN report discloses. And another 12-13 years from now, we will be 8 billion in 2025. With ever decreasing resources, there will be more pressure on existing food sources and greater requirement of healthcare. Asia-Pacific region will see a comparatively more increase in its population than in other parts of the globe. The above graph shows a decrease in Chinese population in 2050, but a much larger surge in Nigeria's population from 162.3 million in 2011 to 433 million in 2050.
