RIM refutes PlayBook Jailbreak claims

Soon after the leakage of news of a jailbreak of RIM's PlayBook by hackers, the Research In Motion has totally refuted the claims of jailbreak of its PlayBook tablet and insists it to be secure.

The  company said in a statement:

"The term 'jailbreaking' is commonly used to describe altering the software on a smartphone or tablet in order to obtain access to systems or applications not officially authorized or distributed by the manufacturer. BlackBerry smartphone users are not affected. RIM is currently investigating this claim and has been in contact with one of the security researchers to discuss it."

Hackers jailbreak BlackBerry PlayBook

Three hackers in Toronto say they have exploited a vulnerability in Research In Motion's PlayBook tablet to gain root access to the device, a claim that could damage the BlackBerry maker's hard-won reputation for security.

In a response to queries, RIM said it is investigating the claim, and if a "jailbreak" is confirmed will release a patch to plug the hole.
