Shahid Khaqan Abbasi elected interim Prime Minister of Pakistan

After removal of Nawaz Sharif by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi of PML-N has been  elected as the interim minister of Pakistan today by the National Assembly of Pakistan.

Shahid was minister in Nawaz Sharif cabinet and was nominated to run the affairs of the government till the election on vacant seat of Nawaz Sharif is filled through by election.

Meantime,younger brother of Nawaz, currently chief minister of Punjab province, is contesting on the vacant seat to become a full fledged prime minster till the government completes its term in 2018.

Panama Papers: Pakistan Supreme Court Disqualifies PM Nawaz Sharif

In a historic decision in the history of Pakistan, the Pakistan Supreme Courts has disqualified prime minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif and to leave the office immediately. The court has asked the National Accountability Bureau to file reference against the prime minister based on the observations / findings of the JIT.

The decision was announced today by a five bench of judges of Supreme Court of Pakistan. Besides the Prime Minister, the sitting fiance minister Ishaq Dar has also been disqualified. Prime Minister's son in law Captain (retd) Safdar has also been disqualified by the court. Court also directed NAB to file reference against Prime Minister's daughter Maryam Safdar for filing forged papers in the court. 

The Panama Papers leaked in 2015 by a Panamanian law firm and corporate service provider Mossack Fonseca contain personal and financial information about wealthy individuals across the globe. Nawaz Sharif is not the only victim of Panama Papers as earlier prime minister of Iceland was forcced to resign as his name appeared in the papers.

The decision would go a long way in history of Pakistan to ensure a corruption free environment and harness those involved in malafide practices and looting of the national wealth.

43 years old former school teacher Justin Trudeau was sworn in Wednesday as Canada's prime minister. He follows the footsteps of his storied father and restoring his nation's liberal identity after almost 10 years of Conservative rule under Stephen Harper.

Justin Trudeau now has the chance to restore his father's Liberal legacy, which has been under siege under Harper.

First Pakistani PM to attend Indian PM Oath Taking Ceremony

The attendance of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to accept the Indian PM designate Mr Modi to attend his oath taking ceremony would be the first of its kind since both countries obtained independence form the British in 1947.

The two nuclear-armed rivals have fought three wars in the past 60 years.

The visit is being viewed with interest as Mr Modi is seen as a hardliner on national security issues and his BJP party advocates a tough stance on Pakistan. Even Mr Modi has made very provocative statements against Pakistan in the past.

It may be added that outgoing Indian PM Mr Singh was invited to Mr Sharif's inauguration last year but did not attend.

Nawaz Sharif Elected Pakistan's Premier for the Third Time

Pakistan's National Assembly has elected Nawaz Sharif as prime minister, a vote widely expected after Mr. Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League won the May 11 general elections. The vote Wednesday marks the first transition of power between two democratically elected civilian governments in the nearly 66-year history of Pakistan. 

Mr. Sharif was Pakistan's prime minister from 1990 until 1993, when he was forced to resign because of allegations of corruption. He returned to the job in 1997, but was toppled by a military coup two years later.

Mr. Sharif said in a speech to the lawmakers that the top priorities of his administration include fixing the country's economy and tackling corruption.

Mr. Sharif also called for an end to the drone strikes used by the U.S. to kill militants in the tribal areas, along the Afghan border. The drone strikes are deeply unpopular among Pakistanis who say the strikes have killed civilians and are an affront to the country's sovereignty.

Supreme Court of Pakistan orders arrest of the Prime Minister

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered the arrest of the Prime Minister, reports Dawn News.

The prime minister has been accused of receiving kickbacks and commission in the Rental Power Plants (RPPs) case as minister for water and power.

The bench ordered the arrest of 16 persons, including the premier, and directed the authorities to present Prime Minister Ashraf in court tomorrow. 

In the case, nine RPPs firms were accused of receiving more than Rs. 22 billion as a mobilization advance from the government to commission the projects but most of them did not set up their plants and a few of them installed them but with inordinate delay.

The order came at a time when a religious cleric Dr Tahir ul Qadri has staged a sit-in in the capital Islamabad since last night and has said that it would not abandon its sit-in unless the present government was removed and a caretaker set was announced.

Freedom of speech being used to offend: Pakistan PM

Pakistan's Prime Minister said Friday that the anti-Islam film had hurt his sentiments but that of Muslims across the world. Any attack on the life or teachings of the Prophet was an attack on the feelings of 1.5 billion Muslims and was unacceptable, he added.

He said the making of the notorious film was not about freedom of expression, but was an expression of blatant hatred. He also termed it a clear reflection of double standards, maintained by the West and said it was intolerable.

He rejected the justification that any attempt to defame the religiously revered personalities was permitted as freedom of expression. He said no law, philosophy or morality permitted that those personalities who had the highest of the stature, revered by the Muslims, be defamed by any means.

He said the stature of the Prophet could not be discredited by any one, despite their nefarious attempts.

Spanish PM to unveil fresh cuts

Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has begun addressing parliament, setting out a new raft of austerity measures aimed at balancing the budget.

His speech comes as hundreds of Spanish miners arrived in Madrid to protest against government cuts to subsidies.

Mr Rajoy is expected to unveil a rise in VAT as well as cuts to social security and unemployment benefits.

The measures are in return for a eurozone bank bailout and an extension to Spain's deficit reduction targets.

Ex Israeli premier Yitzhak Shamir dies at 96

Yitzhak Shamir, the hawkish Israeli leader who two decades ago first balked at U.S. calls to trade occupied land for Middle East peace, died on Saturday after a long illness. He was 96.

The second longest-serving prime minister after Israel's founder, David Ben-Gurion, Shamir clung to the status quo. Admirers saw strength and resolve in his position, while critics called him an intransigent naysayer who allowed Arabs to cast Israel as obstructing reconciliation.

Born in Poland with the surname Yezernitzky, Shamir moved to British-ruled Palestine before the Holocaust, in which his family died. Steely and secretive, he ran missions against British and Arab targets for the hardline Jewish underground group Irgun, taking his Hebrew name from an alias used to evade police dragnets.

Pakistan Supreme Court Disqualifies PM

So finally the decision came - the Pakistan's Supreme Court disqualified the embattled prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and ordered him to leave office. 

The court observed that the PM had already become disqualified with effect from 26 April vide its earlier order but the PM had blatantly violated the court order by continuing to clinging to his seat.

While the decision is a big blow to the ruling Pakistan People's Party (PPP), it is unlikely to lead to the fall of the unpopular government. The present government is least liked in the country as its members are involved in corruption cases and woes of people have multiplied by mismanagement of power sector and almost day long spells of load shedding.

Pakistan PM charged with contempt

Pakistani PM Yousuf Raza Gilani has been charged with contempt in an appearance before the country's Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court has said Mr Gilani defied a court order to write to the Swiss authorities and ask them to re-open the cases against Mr Zardari.

The prime minister, who faces jail and being barred from office if convicted, pleaded not guilty.
