In a bizarre incident, the Bosnian warlord kills himself at The Hague drinking poison.

Slobodan Praljak who had appeared at The Hague to appeal 20-year war crime sentence took out a bottle from his pocket and drank its substance, saying that he was not a war criminal after the judge upheld his punishment.

It's still unclear how Praljak obtained the poison while he was incarcerated.

British soldiers' suicide rate 'overtakes Afghan deaths'

In a recent revelation, it has been learnt that more British soldiers and veterans have died because of committing suicides than those who died in combat in Afghanistan.

BBC Panorama reports that 21 serving soldiers killed themselves last year (2012), along with 29 veterans, while 44 soldiers died in Afghanistan, of which 40 died in action.

Some of the soldiers' families say the men did not get enough support.

In one suicide incident, one soldier named L/Sgt Collins put on his Army uniform, and drove into the Preseli mountains in Pembrokeshire, where he recorded a farewell video on his phone and then hanged himself. He was 29. 

L/Sgt Collins had twice survived being shot and was blown off his feet by a roadside bomb - his friend, L/Cpl Dane Elson, was blown to pieces just yards away from him.

Delhi rape accused found dead in prison

Ram Singh, 33, was one of five men being held in the notorious Dehli rape and murder case was found hanged and dead in his prison cell.

Ram Singh was one of the suspects in the the notorious rape and murder of a female student in India's capital, Delhi. 

The 23-year-old rape victim, who was not named for legal reasons, was with a male friend when she was attacked on a bus and thrown from the vehicle.

She died in a Singapore hospital on 29 December from massive internal injuries.

Tihar jail spokesman Sunil Gupta told the BBC that Ram Singh appeared to have hanged himself with an improvised rope made from a blanket at about 05:00 local time on Monday (23:30 GMT Sunday).

The spokesman denied Indian media reports that Ram Singh had been on suicide watch, and said three people were sharing his prison cell.

China's lovers' leap into Wuhan Yangtze River caught accidently on camera

Sometimes you are intending to shoot a moment, but it is caught accidently and becomes a sad masterpiece.

This exactly what happened when a photographer who was trying to snap the fog shrouded bridge over the Wuhan Yangtze River in Hubei province of Central China.

While the photographer was busy composing the fog shrouded bridge, a desparate Chinese couple leapt into the river in desperation - only to be caught on the camera.

The horrific photographer later recalls:

'To be honest I didn't even see the first person jump because I was concentrating so much on the camera settings and I didn't realize at first that I had snapped the man jumping to his death.'

'It was only then after snapping the photograph that I heard someone shout that somebody had jumped. I heard him hit the water below and then seconds later a woman climbed onto the bridge and jumped as well..'

'I was totally paralyzed - there was no way I could get anywhere near her, I still had my hand on the camera and I tensed and shot off another few frames entirely by accident - but ended up photographing the woman as well.'

Police identified the man from some of the possessions he left at the top and said he was a 20-year-old migrant worker named as Liu Han, and believed that the girl who has not yet been identified was his lover.

A devoted mother hanged herself after becoming 'fixated' by a suicide scene in the film An Officer And A Gentleman, an inquest heard.

Claire Peake, 39, was found dead in her garage by her boyfriend after the pressure of juggling her job as a primary school teacher with looking after her newborn baby became too much.

In the weeks before her death, Claire and partner Stuart Withnall had watched the film in which Officer Candidate Sid Worley, played by actor David Keith, hangs himself in a motel shower cubicle after being rejected by his girlfriend.

Unemployment and bankruptcy take their toll - alarming 15% rise in suicides

Cases of suicide have rocketed since Britain plunged into recession, alarming new figures reveal.

Coroners courts concluded that 3,471 people had taken their own lives last year, a rise of 15 per cent compared to 2007.

However, right across the country, from the south west to Sunderland, local hotspots have seen numbers more than double.

And even in more affluent London and the Home Counties, large swathes of the region have seen suicide verdicts soar by more than 50 per cent.

Go and die' - and He Dies

Sometimes love-hate game can take lives. And this is actually what happened. 

A musician hanged himself after receiving a message on Facebook telling him to 'go and die', an inquest heard today.

Simon Foxley, from Hyde, Gloucestershire, was left heartbroken when a girl he met on the internet deleted him as a friend on the social networking site and when he tried to contact her he received taunts from her friends.

After the final message he climbed from his bedroom window into the garden where he ended his life.

Facebook launches tool to report suicidal behavior

Facebook launched a new suicide prevention tool on Tuesday, giving users a direct link to an online chat with counselors who can help, reports Reuters quoting Facebook.

The new tool gives people who may not be comfortable picking up the phone a direct avenue to seek help.

The new suicide reporting tool will be made available to people who use Facebook in the United States and Canada. The availability specific to USA/Canada can be understood from the fact that nearly 100 Americans die by suicide every day, according to the Surgeon General of the United States.

Russia: Teen Suicide Rate Ranks 3rd Highest in the World

Russia has the third-highest number of suicides among teenagers in the world — followed only by Kazakhstan and Belarus — a troubling statistic experts link to family problems, a new UNICEF report released Wednesday found.

About 1,500 teenagers, between the ages of 15 and 19, kill themselves annually across the country, according to the report prepared by UNICEF and a research institute affiliated with the Health and Social Development Ministry. In all, there are 30,000 suicides recorded in Russia each year.

Welsh football manager Gary Speed commits suicide

The world of football was in shock today after Wales manager Gary Speed was found hanged at his home in Cheshire. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and the family have requested that they be left to grieve in peace.

The former Leeds United, Everton, Newcastle and Bolton star, who appeared on BBC's Football Focus show yesterday, was aged 42. Garry was awarded MBE last December for his meritorious services to the game of football.

Woman sets herself on fire at petrol pump

A 55 years old woman from Bath, Somerset, set herself on fire at the Sainsbury's filling station. Although, two workers staff tried to put the fire out by spraying her with bottles of water, she was burnt beyond repair. 

Two fire engines were called to the store in Green Park, Bath, and the woman was rushed to hospital with severe burns. She later died at the nearby Royal United Hospital from her injuries.

Her motive behind the gory incident is still being probed.

Mark and Helen Mullins could not face another freezing winter on the poverty line, according to neighbours

It may be very tragic to read that a British army veteran Mark, 48, and Helen, 59, who had learning difficulties, 'slipped through the net' and were found dead side-by-side in their home being too poor to live on.

The couple were finding it extremely difficult to live on a paltry  £57.50 a week allowance. They had to walk ten miles each week to go to the a soup kitchen to collect free vegetables.

Police are investigating....
