Seymour Hersh: USA Joint Chiefs of Staff indirectly supported Assad to help him defeat jihadists

While much is said about the ISIS and its heinous crimes against humanity and USA apparently trying to undo Assad's government in Syria, here is yet another revelation by none other than Pulitzer-winning veteran journalist Seymour Hersh who says the USA's Joint Chiefs of Staff has indirectly supported Bashar al-Assad in an effort to help him defeat jihadist groups.

According to Hersh the Joint Chiefs sent intelligence via Russia, Germany and Israel on the understanding it would be transmitted to help Assad push back Jabhat al-Nusra and the Islamic State. 

What is more interesting is that the military even undermined a U.S. effort to arm Syrian rebels in a bid to prove it was serious about helping Assad fight their common enemies.

India and Malaysia to set up a SU-30 support forum

India and Malaysia have decided to set up a Sukhoi-30 forum that would provide base for exchanging information on operations and maintenance support of the Russian built SU-30 fighter aircraft.

Both countries operate the Russian fighter and India has already trained Malaysian pilots in the past.

The Indian Air Force operates Su-30 MKI family of jets while Malaysian Air Force has the MKM variant of the jets.

US seeks Pakistan's support in Afghanistan

As the US prepares to pull out from Afghanistan, it has sought Pakistan's support on "our shared interest in regional stability, including a secure and peaceful future for Afghanistan."

The issue came up when the new US secretary of state John Kerry called Pakistan President Asif Ali

Zardari on Tuesday, the State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland told reporters on Wednesday.

"Kerry has a longstanding relationship with many Pakistani leaders, and he used the opportunity of the phone call to underscore the continuing importance of an effective, strong, and mutually beneficial US-Pakistani relationship," she said

He emphasised that Pakistan and the United States have many shared interests, including fighting terrorism and extremism, supporting democratic civilian institutions, and supporting Pakistan's efforts to increase economic growth, Nuland said.
