Gunmen kill 43 passengers inside the bus in Karachi

It was a sad day once again when gunmen riding on motorcycles ambushed a bus in Karachi and kill 43 passengers at point blank range.

The provincial Police Inspector General said that 60 people were on board the bus when six gunmen entered and executed 43 passengers, leaving 13 injured.

Hospital sources have so far confirmed that the dead include 25 men and 16 women. Police officials said that there were no children among the casualties.

Fresh wave of communal violence kills five Muslims in Myanmar

Myanmar which is experiencing the worst communal violence against its Muslim minority saw a fresh wave of mob violence which left five Muslims dead Tuesday.

The incident occured in Thandwe, a town in troubled Rakhine state.

Several houses were burned Sunday, and a curfew from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. was imposed. On Tuesday, mobs armed with knives and sticks grew larger and began attacks in villages around the town, authorities said, and stabbed to death a 94-year-old Muslim woman. Four other Muslim men were also killed, according to police there.

"More than 1,000 residents surrounded the Muslim homes and destroyed them," said Win Myaing, government spokesman for Rakhine state, estimating that more than 50 homes and a mosque were burned. 

The violence comes as Myanmar President Thein Sein visits Rakhine state for the first time since bloody communal tension broke out more than a year ago.

France's burkha ban sparks violence across Paris

The ban on Islamic hejab in France is leading to violence against Muslim women in Paris after police tried to arrest a Muslim woman for wearing a veil.

But when officers approached the unnamed woman, around 60 passers-by became involved in a 'riot' and police used tear gas and flash-ball shots to disperse them, according to a police source.

On Thursday, a 21-year-old was attacked in Argenteuil, with 'two shaven-haired men tearing the veil from her face and pulling her hair,' said a police source close to the case. She was rushed to the emergency ward of Argenteuil hospital where she underwent treatment for unspecified injuries. Police said that the men had shouted racist insults at the girl, saying that the veil was no longer acceptable in France.

In an other incident, ipolice confirmed that a 17-year-old, identified only as Rabia, was attacked in Argenteuil on May 20th for wearing a veil. Two men beat her up at around 9pm, shouting 'Dirty Arab' and 'Dirty Muslim' while laughing.

It may be added that as per the French law which came into force in 2011, women 'guilty' of wearing niqabs can be fined the equivalent of around £130. However, Amnesty International is among human rights groups who have condemned the law, saying it breaches the right of freedom of expression.

Cremation of rape victim amid anger and grief in India

While there has been much hue and cry in India after a 23 years student was gang raped and tortured in a moving bus, nothing could save her even when she was flown to a Singapore hospital for treatment.

Her body was flown back to India and was hurriedly cremated amid anger and grief, early Sunday morning today. The funeral pyre was lit by her sobbing father at a crematorium in Dwarka after relatives and friends said their final prayers at a ritual at the house where the girl lived in Delhi.

In a bid to tame down the emotions, her body was received by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi in the early hours.

Dozens dead and hundreds injured in Egypt football match violence

At least 74 people have died and hundreds are injured after clashes broke out at a football match in Port Said between Cairo club Al-Ahly and local club Al-Masry, government officials said.

The violence flared after Al-Ahly, one of Egypt's most successful teams, were beaten 3-1. Television footage showed players running from the pitch chased by fans. A small group of riot police tried to protect the players, but appeared to be overwhelmed and unable to stop fans attacking players. Fans of both teams clashed and stormed the pitch and dressing rooms.

Call of Duty started this whole battle by dropping you in the middle of a nuke — but at the time it was a great plot device and set the pace of the game.

Now game developers for Rainbow Six: Patriots released a scene where "patriots" of the Occupy Wall Street sort break into a building and strap a bomb to a banker-type executive, chiding him for foreclosing on homes and being a Wall Street fat cat.

1 in 4 US women victims of severe violence [ Survey Report ]

While the West blames many third world countries for violence against women, a startling survey carried out by a research group in Atlanta, USA reveals that 1 in 4 women were violently attacked by their husbands or boyfriends.

"It's the first time we've had this kind of estimate" on the prevalence of intimate partner violence, said Linda Degutis of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

One expert called the new report's estimate on rape and attempted rape "extremely high" — with 1 in 5 women saying they were victims. About half of those cases involved intimate partners. No documentation was sought to verify the women's claims, which were made anonymously. But advocates say the new rape numbers are plausible.

As many as 29 million women say they have suffered severe and frightening physical violence from a boyfriend, spouse or other intimate partner. That includes being choked, beaten, stabbed, shot, punched, slammed against something or hurt by hair-pulling.

Indian court convicts 31 Hindus for killing Muslims

A court in India convicted and sentenced 31 Hindus to life imprisonment Wednesday for killing dozens of Muslims by setting a building on fire during one of India's worst rounds of communal violence nine years ago.

The killing took place in 2002 in the Indian state of Gujarat, when the suspects set a building on fire in a village in Mehsana district, nearly 25 miles (40 kilometers) north of Ahmadabad, the main city of Gujarat state. Thirty-three Muslims, including 20 women, who had taken shelter there were burned alive.
