Federer walks away with his Eighth Wimbledon title

It was a great day for aging Roger Federer on the Center Court at Wimbledon this Sunday when he walked away with his eight Wimbledon tennis title.

Federer beat Marin Cilic in straight easy sets 6-3, 6-1 and 6-4 to his record 19 Grand Slam title. He thus becomes the oldest man in the Open era to win at the All England Club. He also becomes the first tennis star to win five titles in succession at Wimbledon and US Open.

Federer thus supersedes Pete Sampans with seven Wimbledon titles and is only one title behind Martina Navratilova who has bagged Wimbledon title for record nine times.

Serena bags her 22nd Grand Slam title at Wimbledon

Oh boy she is simply unbeaten - at 34 years old, American Serena Williams still has the stamina and skill to beat whoever comes her way. And Wimbledon's lad singles final today was just another such event when she bagged her 22nd Grand Slam title by Angelique Kerber 7-5 6-3 in the final.

Williams struck 39 winners and 13 aces in her superb grand finale performance.

2016 title was her 7th Wimbledon title after successfully defending her last years title. There seems to be no stopping for many years it seems.

Wimbledon's shocking upset: World No.1 Djokovic crashes out in third round

Oops the news is devastating for fans of world no.1 Novak Djokovic as he crashed out of the Wimbledon title race just in the third round.

While the reigning champion Djokovic was on 30-match unbeaten Grand Slam run, came American Sam Querrey, world ranked 41st, and beat Novak Djokovic 7-6 (8/6), 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (7/5) on Saturday.

So that is it for the world no.1 as he loses this important Grand Slam he had been eyeing anxiously.

Federer at 33 not lucky as Serena - loses Wimbledon final to Djokovic

While Serena Williams celebrated her 21st Grand Slam and sixth Wimbledon title at the age of 33 yesterday, Roger Federer at 33 too was not lucky to win the Wimbledon title today.

Playing against Novak Djokovic, the world no.1 at the Centre Court today, Federer was able to fight back to equlaise the score 1-1 in the first two sets. But thereafter lost the next two sets much to easily to Djokovic.

At 28, it’s Novak Djokovic’s ninth grand slam and third Wimbledon title. As for Federer, he has won Wimbledon title seven times and Grand Slam titles including Wimbledon 17 times.

Final score Djokovic: 7(7)-6(1), 6(10)-7(12), 6-4, 6-3

Serena becomes the oldest female player to win the Wimbledon title

She has done it again - at almost 34 years old, 33 years and 289 days to be exact, the world no.1 american Serena Williams won her sixth Wimbledon title and her 21st Grand Slam title to become the oldest woman player of the Open Era to win the Wimbledon title.

Earlier, Martina Navratilova held this record of being the oldest female player to win a Wimbledon title.

Serena Williams beat Garbine Muguruza 6-4, 6-4  in Saturday's final to win her sixth Wimbledon title and third Grand Slam title in the current year.

Federer marches into Wimbledon final beating Andy Murray in straight sets

Much against the wishes and aspirations of the Londoners, Andy Murray crumbled in front of 33 years old Roger Federer in the Wimbledon semi final on the Centre Court today.

Roger Federer beat Murray 7-5, 7-5 and 6-4 to march into his 10th Wimbledon final. Federer now eyes his eight Wimbledon title on Sunday, playing against world no.1 Novak Djokovic.

Federer will now be playing his 26th Grand Slam final and eyeing his 18th Grand Slam title and also become the first man in history to win Wimbledon eight times.

Serena moves to Wimbledon final as Sharapova fails to break Serena magic spell

So it finally happened as expected - Serena Williams, the undoubtedly the most deserving world number 1 reached the Wimbledon finals after beating Maria Sharapova of Russia 6-2, 6-4.

Sharapova always loses when the two meet since her maiden win over Serena years back at Wimbledon in 2004. In fact there is some sort of magic surrounding the America, a spell that the Russian finds to strong to break and melts when she plays the world no.1.

Sharapova's easy defeat at the hands of Serena shows her weakness to over awe the American and allowing her to reach the finals and perhaps win the title to take her Grand Slam total to 21.

Tearful Andy departs Centre Court empty handed

Few hours before, Andy Murray the darling of England was determined to win his maiden Wimbledon title and bring an end to the title-less drought for his country of 74 years.

But now that the event is over and Swiss Roger Federer bags his seventh Wimbledon title, equaling the record held by William Renshaew and Pete Sempras, a tearful Andy, along with his tear full mother and girl friend left the Centre Court empty handed. And also made the Londoners weep too for the loss.

Serena beats Radwanska - claims 5th Wimbledon title

6th ranked 30-year-old American Serena Williams has won her fifth Wimbledon title Saturday on Centre Court, beating 3rd ranked Polish Agnieszka Radwanska 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, and proudly lifted the Venus Rosewater Dish for the fifth time.

Winning the first set was easy, but the second was certainly hard like the uneaten toast left by Prince Charles many many years ago on his wedding with Diana. Radwanska fought hard and took the match to 6-5 and broke Serena serve four times to win to win the set 7-5.

But it was the third set, which Serena did not want to give away and forced Radwanska to give in 6-2 and won the Wimbledon title.

She now shared her record with big sister Venus as both have now won the Wimbledon title for five times.

Now let us wait for Sunday tomorrow ans see who amongst British Andy Murray and Swiss Roger Federer wins the men's single title. It may be added that the same scenario as of today prevails for tomorrow: Like  Radwanska , Andy Murray too eyes his maiden Wimbledon title and also wants to end a 74 years drought for his country of a Wimbledon title - and like Serena, Federer too eyes the Wimbledon title for the seventh time and equal the record held by William Renshaw and Pete Sampras.

Murray ends Britain's 74 years long wait at Wimbledon Final

Andy did it !! 

This is what everyone said when British no.1 Scot Andy Murray beat Frenchman Tsonga in the Wimbledon men's singles semi final and marched into the finals.

Andy thus ended Britain's long wait of 74 years at the Wimbledon's final - a presence that was last made by Bunny Austin in 1938.

Swiss Roger Federer eyeing the Wimbledon title for the seventh time

Andy Murray now faces a tough challenge against world no.3 Swiss Roger Federer, who marches into the Wimbledon final for the eighth time and eyes to win the title seventh time and equal it to that of William Renshaw and Pete Sempras, both having won the title seven times.

So both players are set to make history: Andy to bring a maiden win not for himself, on his maiden entry into the final, but also to bring the trophy to his trophy starved country for 74 years. And Federer of course eyeing to win the title for the seventh time and go down in history along with the names of William Renshaw and Pete Sempras.

Federer storms into Wimbledon Final for a Seventh win

What a day it was at the Centre Court Wimbledon this afternoon when the titans came to clash each other in the first semi final of the men's single event of the Wimbledon.

The match between the defending champion and world no.1 Serbian Novak Djokovic and world no.3 Swiss Roger Federer ended in classic victory byt eh Swiss over the deffending champion.

Federer having won the first set 6-3, lost the second set t Djokovic 6-3. But thereafter, it was Federer commanding the Serbian and finally won over the match 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 and 6-3.

Federer now marches into the Wimbledon final to realize his dream of equalling the seven times win record of of William Renshaw and Pete Sempras.

The result of the other semi final between British no.1 Andy Murray and Frenchman Tsonga is awaited - it remains to be seen whether Murray moves to final and win over Federer to make history hoping to end Britain's 76-year wait for a male singles champion at Wimbledon or it is Federer who equals the seven wins record of William Renshaw and Pete Sempras.

Wimbledon ticket price may soar to £45000 a pair if Murray reaches final

World no.4 and British no.1 Andy Murray plays Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the Wimbledon semi-final on Friday, and a win for the Scot would mean a pair of tickets for Sunday’s final could top 45,000 pounds.

Tickets for Murray’s Wimbledon semi-final clash with Tsonga were being sold for more than 4,000 pounds till Thursday night, a newspaper reported.

Agency Viagogo.com was last night charging up to 8,523 pounds for a pair of tickets, but director Edward Parkinson said a Murray win would mean a pair could surpass 45,000 pounds by Sunday.

If Murray triumphs he will become the first Brit since Bunny Austin 74 years ago to reach the Wimbledon men’s final.

Serena now plays her 7th final and eyes the Venus Rosewater Dish for the fifth time, having won it four times already.

The final will be played on 7th July at the Centre Court.

London Olympics - 30 days to go

The euphoria of Euro and Wimbledon won't last longer than 8 July when the Wimbledon men's singles final will bring an end to the two on going major sports events taking place now.

But then we wait for the mega event of the year - the London Olympics.

Already there are teams brushing up their gears and taking stock of the energies and talent to exhibit at London 30 days from hence.

and there is something that wasn't there before - the Saudi women athletes that have been allowed for the first time in the history of Saudi Arabia and the Olmpics. This will allow the female talent from the deserts of Saudi Arabia to the green country side of London.

meanwhile the Canadian women soccer team has been announced on Monday - though ranked seven, the Canadian women will have to show their mettle and improve thier rating if they can.

There is much more about Olympic preparations, that we will continue to share in days to come, beside bringing live coverage of Wimbledon matches and of course the Euro semis between defending champion Spain and Portugal, that is today, and Germany and Italy on Thursday, followed by the closing ceremony and final of Euro on July 1.

Wimbledon Day 1: Djokovic, Federer and Sharapova move to 2nd round - Venus Williams Goes Home

The Day -1 at Wimbledon saw easy going for most of the players except one set back: the ouster of Venus Williams.

But let us first talk of the easy wins - World no.1 and defending champion Serbian Djokovic beat 

Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 on the Centre Court.

After the men's singles, Roland Garros winner and world no.1 Russian Maria Sharapova defeated Australian Anastasia Rodionova 6-2, 6-3.

On No.1 Court, world no.3 Swiss Roger Federer, who is eyeing the Wimbledon trophy for the seventh times, eased into the second round Albert Ramos of Spain 6-1, 6-1, 6-1.

And now comes the biggest set back of the day. American Venus Williams, though put in some reistance, was not able to tame the Russian Elena Vesnina who beat Williams 6-1, 6-3. Venus was also ousted from the second round of Roland Garros. But ouster from first round must have been very heavy for the American, who her sister Serena claimed was in good form. 

In other matches, 11th ranked Chinese Na Li defeated kazakhistan's Ksenia Pervak 6-3, 6-1 and 18th ranked French Richard Gasquet defeated German Tobias Kamke 6-2, 6-2,6-2.
