Samsung wants iPhone 5 added to patent case against Apple

South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. says it has filed a motion with a U.S. court to add Apple's iPhone 5 to their ongoing patent battle.

Samsung says it filed the motion Monday with the California court, alleging that Apple's new phone infringes on eight of its patents.

Samsung released a statement Tuesday saying, "We have always preferred to compete in the marketplace with our innovative products, rather than in courtrooms. However, Apple continues to take aggressive legal measures that will limit market competition."

Many iPhone users not satisfied with iOS 6

It's not news that people aren't too happy with iOS 6's maps. But what about other aspects of the operating system?

Well, a new survey shows that iPhone owners satisfaction with the iOS 6 overall seems to be decreasing compared with iOS 5.

According to TechCrunch, the mobile customer research firm On Device conducted a poll of nearly 16,000 iPhone owners in the U.S. and found that owner satisfaction had slightly dropped compared with previous surveys done on iOS 4 and 5. Although the drop is minimal, this is the first time On Device has seen any sort of decrease in customer satisfaction.

"We have always seen an increase in device satisfaction as consumer upgrade their mobile operating system from one version to another," On Device CEO Alistair Hill told TechCrunch.

5 Million Apples (iPhone 5) sold

Despite Map App glitches and many other reported shortcomings of the Apple's news iPhone 5, Apple said Monday that it sold more than 5 million iPhone 5s in the three days since its launch, fewer than analysts had expected.

Apple shares fell $9.30, or 1.3%, to close at $690.79 on Monday. The shares hit an all-time high of $705.07 Friday as the phone went on sale in the U.S., Germany, France, Japan and five other countries.

The sales tally is a record for any phone, but it beats last year's iPhone 4S launch by only a small margin. Apple said then that it sold 4 million phones in the first three days.

Despite much criticism of the TV remote like sleek long iPhone 5 and its rather inaccurate map app, the iPhone enthusiasts are building up.

As Apple’s iPhone 5 hit stores around the world on Friday, with long queues of devotees undeterred by a lukewarm welcome from experts and complaints about the smartphone’s new mapping system.

The lines of eager fans outside stores looked set to make the latest iPhone another commercial success for the trend-setting US tech giant, with Apple saying it had received more than two million orders online.

Australians were the first to get their hands on the device. In Sydney faithful fans filmed the experience on their iPhones and iPads as staff inside clapped and cheered when the doors opened at 8:00 am (2200 GMT Thursday).

Apple's iOS 6 maps app is half-baked

Fanbois, pundits and tech reviewers got their first chance to lambast the spanking-new extra-shiny iPhone 5 and iOS 6 this week and Apple's new Maps app was (nearly) universally panned as mere shite, reports The Register.

The fruity firm pulled Google's much-loved Maps from its latest iDevice, and replaced it with its own app packed with TomTom data. Which would be fine if the thing wasn't occasionally inaccurate and somewhat shoddy.

One fanboi moaned:

The maps app is shocking! It looks rushed, half-baked, delivers a really poor user experience. Compare the aerial photograph with that of google maps for areas outside London, Cardiff, Portsmouth...

Apple sells 2 million iPhones in 24 hours

The euphoria of iPhone 5 has smashed all previous sale records for Apple as people are vying to get a set no matter how.

And that is not just a statement as Apple today announced that it had sold more than 2 million of the new iPhone 5 in 24 hours. That’s more than twice Apple’s previous record, set last October, when 1 million iPhone 4S units were sold in one day.

Technology research firm IDC has estimated that Apple will sell 51 million iPhone 5 units in the Christmas quarter, 35% more than the previous corresponding period. That number could be at serious risk of being beaten, if sales continue at the current clip.

Many users are likely to be left frustrated as it includes a controversial new 'docking connector' which will render thousands of Apple accessories obsolete.

With the new model, Apple is ditching the docking port connector it's used for iPods, iPhones and iPads for nearly a decade in favor of a smaller, narrower one.

The newer, slimline port means that thousands of current Apple accessories will need a potentially clunky adapter to work with the 'iPhone 5' - or become unusable.

According to the website Gizmodo, the new 'Lightning to 30-pin' adapter will cost about £18 while a 0.2m cable version of the adapter will cost £24.

Survey signals unprecedented demand for iPhone 5

While the race between Samsung Galaxy S-III and Apple's forth coming iPhone 5 intensifies, there is an "Advance demand" for Apple's next iPhone is at an all-time high, said a research firm today, predicting huge sales later this year for what most have dubbed the "iPhone 5."

A survey of more than 4,000 North American consumers by ChangeWave Research showed a record enthusiasm for Apple's next-generation smartphone, with nearly a third saying they were likely to buy one.

"Advance demand for the 'iPhone 5' is strikingly higher than we've seen for any previous iPhone model," said Paul Carton, ChangeWave's vice president of research, in an abbreviated report sent via email.

The U.S. Patent Office has granted Apple a patent for what is believed to be the new dock connector on the next iPhone.

Apple is believed to be revamping the charging port for what will be the fifth version of the iPhone, which is expected to arrive later this Autumn.

As with all of Apple's products, the company keeps its cards very close to its chest before launches, but the patent filing describes a charging and data port which matches the rumoured new design. 

Sadly for Apple users, the new design will mean changing all of your peripherals, such as speaker docks, unless adapters comes to market.

Apple's iPhone 5 goes on sale in China

Although Apples has not announced the release date of iPhone 5, it hasn't stopped opportunistic sellers on one Chinese online bidding site cashing in on demand for the new smartphone.

Sellers on Taobao are advertising the phones for up to 7,500 yuan, complete with mock-up pictures and purported technical specifications, and already accepting pre-orders.

Some are taking deposits of around 1,000 yuan (£100) for the new phone, but one seller, 'Dahai99888', who started accepting pre-orders this week, is asking for full payment upfront, at a 6,999 yuan (around £700).

The recent decision by Apple that iPhone will use 19pin connector instead of present 30-pin connector would not only make all present accessories redundant and useless, the decision also leaves Apple users irked and disappointing.

In fact Apple is accused of ripping of customers as it made public its plans of next version of the iPhone that would render all current accessories obsolete.

Even Speakers, docks and other expensive accessories costing hundreds of dollars would be rendered useless by the move, along with cheaper add-ons such as chargers. Even cars with the current connector built in would need to be upgraded.

The new plan is being implemented to make the newxt iPhine thinner and slimmer which cannot take present broader pins of connectors.
