Rashpal Chana, a magistrate who was given an award by the Queen for his contribution to British science in 2006, was jailed Tuesday over the death of a toddler who was scalded in a shower.

Chana was found guilty of the manslaughter of Kristiana Logina, the two-year-old daughter of a girlfriend. Chana, 49, was sentenced to four-and-a-half years while the child’s mother, Eva, received six years for manslaughter for the same crime.
