There have been news of many manufacturing units being inundated due to reent Thai flood and many units closing down every day. Now Irvine, Calif.-based Western Digital (WDC, Fortune 500), the global hard drive leader, is worried about the supply of hard disks as its two units are located in Thailand.Both these units are submerged in water and their production halted since October 12.
This means critical shortage of Laptops in days to come as there are no more hard disks flying in from Thailand. John Coyne, Western Digital's CEO said on a conference call with analysts two weeks ago:
"This is a disaster of unprecedented scale, The flooding in Thailand presents us with a series of daunting challenges during the next several quarters."
