The over five hours epic final was a test of both players' nerves, gut, wits and stamina. With two sets down, Nadal fought back superbly and finished the game in a nail biting finish for his counter part was never giving in either.
The match ended in the favour of world number 1 Nadal 2-6, 6-7, 6-4,6-4,7-5 at the rod Laver Arena. While Nadal has won the French Open title for record 13 times, his win at Melbourne was only his second. He earlier won the title in 2009, beating Roger Federer, 7–5, 3–6, 7–6(7–3), 3–6, 6–2.
