Banning British soldiers from training in Extreme Cold causes Amusement in local Norwegians

A file photo shows British soldiers training in snow conditions - and are being banned by health and safety rules from training at a military base in the Arctic circle - because it's too cold
British soldiers are being banned by health and safety rules from training at a Norwegian military base in the Arctic circle - because it's too cold.

This means that the British soldiers cannot join NATO counterparts in Porsanger, Norway.

Since temperatures can drop to -25C, but rules prevent soldiers from facing them.

Adherence to 'rules' has caused 'amusement' among locals, says a Norwegian officer. Locals at the Allied Training Centre in Porsanger in Norway said they were stunned that while Norwegian troops were out in -25C weather, the Brits were being kept in the warm because of the army rules.

Egypt army topples President Morsi

The Egyptian army toppled Islamist President Mohamed Morsi on Wednesday after a week of bloodshed that killed nearly 50 people as millions took to the streets to demand an end to his turbulent single year of rule.

The announcement, made on state television by Mr Morsi's own defence minister, armed forces chief General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, drew a rapturous welcome from thousands of protesters who have camped out on the streets of Cairo for days.

General Sisi laid out details of the roadmap for a political transition, saying the Islamist-drafted constitution would be frozen and presidential elections held early, without specifying when.

Rohingya Muslims "persecuted" after Myanmar crackdown

Myanmar security forces killed, raped or carried out mass arrests of Rohingya Muslims after deadly sectarian riots in the northeast in June, a rights group said on Wednesday, adding the authorities had done little to prevent the initial unrest.
Aid workers were blocked and in some cases arrested, and Rohingyas bore the brunt of a government crackdown in Rakhine state after a week of arson and machete attack by both ethnic Rakhine Buddhists and Rohingyas, New York-based Human Rights Watch said in a report.
Based on 57 interviews with Rakhines and Rohingyas, the report seeks to shed light on a conflict that exposed deep-rooted communal animosity and put the spotlight on promises by the civilian government in office since 2011 to protect human rights after decades of brutal army rule.

Army veteran shot landlady dead 'because he didn't kill anyone while serving in Afghanistan'

A former soldier who served in Afghanistan may have shot his landlady to experience what it was like to kill someone, a court was told Tuesday, 19 March 2012.

Indian Army chief age row ends: It’s 1950

General VK Singh, Indian Army Chief

Army chief General VK Singh’s attempt to retain May 10, 1951, as his date of birth came crashing down as the Supreme Court (SC) upheld the government’s contention that his year of birth was recorded as 1950. The court said while it had complete faith in Gen Singh’s integrity, it would go by the government’s service records. In view of this, Gen Singh will have to retire on May 31 this year.

The three-hour session in the SC boiled down to the fact that Gen Singh, as a young student, had filled in 1950 as his birth year when he had applied for the National Defence Academy. The SC felt that since this led to a chain of documents at the “threshold” that recorded his birth year as 1950, little could be done at this stage.

Chinese Soldiers Pass Around LIVE GRENADE In Military Training Exercise

But when it comes to training with live burning ammunition, it really is hair raising and awful. Watch the video below, shared from YouTube, of Chinese a squad practicing with a live grenade. Remember, a grenade when primed and armed take about four seconds to explode.
