Pakistan PM launches multi-million dollar KKH re-alignment

Pakistan's Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Friday launched two landmark multi-million dollar strategic projects at the Karakorum Highway (KKH), aimed at restoring the historic road linkage with China that was severed due to the artificial Attabad lake created as a result of landslides.

The prime minister performed the ground breaking of re- alignment of a 17-km long section of the Karakoram Highway (KKH). He also inaugurated the 510.42 million dollars up-gradation of a 335 km long section of the road from Raikot to Khunjerab that has now been widened and meets international standards of construction.

PM Ashraf, who earlier had an aerial view of the Attabad lake, the upgraded road and the proposed road alignment site, said that the new roads were part of an effort of the government to provide the people of remote areas a fast and easy linkage with the rest of the country. He said that the road would not only ease travel, but also help provide all facilities of life.

The road surface on the Sydney Harbour Bridge will be replaced next year for the first time since its opening in 1932. The work means the bridge will be closed to motorists for at least two weekends in January 2012.

Chocolate Factory in World's Largest Bamboo-made Structure in Bali

In my childhood I heard the song "Number 54 - the House with Bamboo Door,", but now trends are to have the complete buildings made of bamboos, not just the door. Bali is all set to have a chocolate factory housed in world's largest bamboo-made commercial structure. The structure is spread over an area of 23,000 square feet rising to a height of 50 feet. It is made of 3,000 flexible poles.

It may be added that bamboo is mostly used for flooring, furniture and other household accessories. But the latest trend is to use bamboos in construction of structures and building.

The building boom in Dubai seems over now and empty building lie vacant since there are too many after the building boom that hit the Shiekhdom awhile ago. Now the same bloom has taken over the Toronto skyline. Tall, black steel cranes, more cranes and yet many more cranes are seen all over Toronto - it gives a look as if the Martians have taken over the city. 

John Feri reports in Global Post that:

Toronto is in the midst of the longest sustained housing boom in its history, a decade-and-a-half run that’s seen housing prices more than double and thickets of shiny condominium towers forever alter the city’s distinctive skyline.

Although the industry analysts have been predicting for years the end of the Toronto boom - they have been proved wrong as for now.
