Kashmir Protests as India Revokes its Special Status

In complete defiance of the UN Resolution that declares the Jammu and Kashmir as a disputed territory, India in complete defiance of the UN resolutions has revoked the clause 370 of its constitution on 4th august 2019 and made the disputed territory as an integral part of India. 

Pakistan reacted sharply to this unilateral decision:

"The Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir is an internationally recognized disputed territory. No unilateral step by the Government of India can change this disputed status, as enshrined in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions. Nor will this ever be acceptable to the people of Jammu & Kashmir and Pakistan." 

This was done after India just a couple of days ago deployed over 30,000 additional troops and imposed curfew to brutally slap any reaction from the Kashmiris.

All major Kashmiris leaders have already been placed under house arrest before tabling this notorious and sinister move. This motion comes when US President Trump had reassured Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan that he was ready to mediate the Kashmir dispute.

The Indian move has been strongly condemned by Pakistan and even OIC has reacted sharply to it. "Pakistan strongly condemns and rejects the announcements made today by the Indian Government regarding the Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir," said a Pakistan foreign office statement on Monday.

Major EU Countries Denounce Trump Decision on Golan Heights

In a fierce reactive mode, five major European countries that sit on the UN Security Council on Tuesday denounced US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize the Golan as Israeli territory and voiced concern the move could have broad consequences.

These countries included Belgium, Britain, France, Germany and Poland. The countries reiterated that the European position had not changed and that the Golan remained Israeli-occupied Syrian territory, in line with international law enshrined in UN resolutions.

“We do not recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the territories occupied by Israel since June 1967, including the Golan Heights, and we do not consider them to be part of the territory of the state of Israel,” Belgian Ambassador Marc Pesteen de Buytswerve told reporters.

It may be recalled that Three UN Security Council resolutions call on Israel to withdraw from the Golan, which it seized from Syria in the 1967 Six-Day War and annexed in 1981, in a move that was never recognised internationally.

Pakistan observes Kashmir Day

Kashmir Day was observed by Pakistan on Tuesday, 5th February, with a reiteration by the political leadership of the nation’s resolve to secure the right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people. The day was also marked with belligerent rhetoric from religious right-wing organizations besides the usual round of discussions and rallies across the country on the issue.

Though February 5 is of no particular significance to the Indian part of Kashmir, Pakistan has been observing this day since 1990. In his Kashmir Solidarity Day message, President Asif Ali Zardari said the day was observed every year to reassure ``our Kashmiri brethren of our political, moral and diplomatic support towards their just cause for the right of self-determination as enshrined in the United Nations Charter and the relevant U.N. resolutions’’.

Further, according to him, Kashmiris have remained resolute and steadfast in the face of oppression spanning over six decades. ``Pakistan believes that the use of force, coercion and violation of basic human rights can never succeed in suppressing an indigenous struggle for a just cause. Their perseverance will bear fruit.’’
