New Zealand storms into T20 World Cup Cricket final beating England

Today's first semi final of T20 World Cup Cricket was a big thriller between England and New Zealand. While most of the fans were almost certain that England will be playing the final match, the black caps proved their calculations wrong by defeating England by five wickets and qualifying for  final of the tournament to be played on Sunday.

New Zealand chased down 57 runs in the last four overs, the most target runs successfully chased by any team in men's T20Is at the death overs . Daryl Mitchell was declared Player of the Match for his unbeaten 72 that ensured victory for his team.

England batting first gave a target of 167 to the New Zealand, which they pursued relentlessly and defeated the English with five balls still remaining.

Pakistan beat England after 20 years

Yasir Shah (L) celebrates with Mohammad Amir after taking the wicket of England’s Moeen Ali for 2 runs (Photo: AFP)

It was a remarkable day for Pakistan to beat England in the heart of Lord's cricket ground by 75 runs. The victory came after a spell of 20 long years.

While performing brilliantly himself, Misbah scored a century at the age of 43 years in the first innings to go down in the history books being the oldest to score a ton. Not only him, another emerging bowler Yasir Shah took five wickets in the first innings and also broke a 20 years old record. Yasir was declared man of the match for bagging 10 wickets in both innings.

At the end of the match, the Pakistan team not only dedicated the victory to Abdul Sattar Edhi, the Pakistani philanthropist who died earlier this month, but also thanked Pakistan Army for arranging a rigorous pre-departure camp to keep the boys in super fit shape.

Misbah becomes oldest player in history to hit a century

Pakistan's disputed cricket team skipper Misbah, oft criticized for his age, has become the oldest man in the history of cricket to score a century at the age of 42 at Lords against England in the first test match being played between the two countries these days.

It may be a coincidence that this is Misbah's first ever century playing against England in England. He thus becomes the sixth oldest player in Test history to make a century. After scoring his 100, Misbah performed several press-ups, just as 73-year-old actor Jack Palance did when winning the Best Supporting Actor Oscar at the 1992 Academy awards.

It may be recalled that Misbah equaled West Indies' Vivian Richards´s then world record for the fastest-ever Test century in mere 56-ball hundred against Australia in Abu Dhabi in 2014 :a mark surpassed by Brendon McCullum´s 54-ball hundred for New Zealand against Australia at Christchurch in February.

Muslim Eid festival cancelled in London due to rising racial tensions after Brexit vote

The recent BrExit vote out of European Union has started telling its negative effects, specially for the Muslims living in the UK. It has been announced that the annual Muslim central prayer to celebrate has been cancelled due to rising racial tensions following Brexit vote in London.

It was estimated that approximately 2,000 people were to gather in East Park, Southampton, but due to Far-right groups that threatened to hold protest in the city following Brexit vote, it has been decided to cancel the event.

This is one such announcement so far - it is feared that many other events may also be cancelled.

It may be added that a number of groups such as pro-refugee organisation Refugees Welcome and anti-fascist group Southampton AntiFa held a counter-demonstration in the same area on Saturday.

England crashes out of Europe 2016

The photo tells all - Credit: AFP/Getty Images

After Brexit from EU, another stunning defeat comes to England as it was beaten by Iceland 2-1 in Euro 2016.

And England's manager Hodgson followed Cameron's suite by immediately quitting after the humiliating defeat at the hands of the Icelanders in the final round of 16 game of the Championships, stating he was 'unable to deliver.'

Former Manchester United and Denmark goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, who enjoyed a decorated career, described it simply as: 'The craziest thing I have seen in football,' reports the Daily Mail.

Four mighty sixes win ICC T20 World Cup for West Indies

No one could have believed it to expect four mighty sixes from a tailender to win the ICC T20 World Cup for the West Indies tonight in India.

Playing against India, the West Indians routed the English team and restricted them for a mere 155 runs. But what awaited for the Sammy's 11 was something very dreadful as at every ball it seemed that were losing the chase.

Batsmen like Gayle (4) and Simmons (0) were big disappointing for the West Indies. It was Samuels who brought them back to game but he alone was insufficient to chase the target. And then came Brathwaite, a bowler, a attainder who was to make history for the West Indies. His four mighty sixes changed the complexion of the game and won the match - rather just clutched it out from falling into the English hands.

What a day for West Indies: Their women earlier won the T20 World Cup today and the men followed the suit too and won the match for their country.

Many congratulations West Indies - you really deserved it.

Babar congratulating Hafeez on his century

Most Unceremonious exit of England from ICC World Cup Cricket

It was a bad day for the Englishmen as they were humiliated by none other than Bangladesh cricket team in England's final match hope to stay in the ongoing ICC World Cup cricket.

Bangladesh playing first gave a target of 276 to England to chase. Bangladesh's Mahmudullah scored an impressive 103, followed by 89 by Mushfiqur.

But when it came to Englishmen, they were all back in the pavilion for just 260 runs in 48.3 overs.

England go out in the group stages for the third time in five World Cups, while Bangladesh advance past the first round for only the second occasion.

"I'm gutted at the moment," said England skipper Eoin Morgan. "There'll be an inquest over the next few weeks as to what happened and what went wrong. Then we'll go from there."

England loses their last World Cup warm-up match against Pakistan

Pakistan's Misbah scored 91 to clinch the match from England

The warm up matches for the forthcoming ICC World Cup have drawn a great deal of interest both by teams and the fans to make predictions for the actual tournament.

But England seems to be disappointed by their performance as they lost their last warm up match against Pakistan by four wickets today at Sydney, Australia.

England batting first were 250-8 at the end of the 50-overs with Alex Hales (31) and Gary Ballance (57). Pakistan's Leg-spinner Yasir Shah was the pick of Pakistan's bowlers with 3-45 from 10 overs.

When it came to Pakistan, their captain Misbah played a wonderful innings of 91 runs (not out). He was supported by Akmal (65) and they made up the total 252 for 6 in 48.5 overs.

It may be added that Pakistan has won both of its warm up matches and feel confident to go into the World Cup they won once in 1992 under Imran Khan.

Bronze Age log boats emerge from a silted up river

Eight Bronze age log boats in near perfect condition have been found after being dug out from a silted river - some 3,500 years after they were sunk  Each of the boats was hewn from a single tree trunk, six of them oaks, one alder and one lime.

The boats, the largest of them 28 feet (8.5m) long, are thought to have been used for ferrying cargo and passengers in the Fens some 3,500 years ago.

The smallest of the eight boats is about 11.5 feet (3.5m) long and little more than a foot wide (30-40cm), while the largest is 28 feet long and about 2.5 feet (75cm) wide.

The boats are now being preserved for future study and as a tourist attraction using the same conservation techniques that saved the Mary Rose from falling apart when raised from the Solent.

The boats have now been moved to a refrigerated unit at Flag Fen, near Peterborough, where they are being sprayed with a specialized wax, polyethylene glycol, to protect the timber and where they can be viewed by the public.

Terry denies racist abuse

One of England's biggest soccer stars went on trial Monday, accused of hurling racist abuse at another player during a match last year.

The normally staid chambers of Westminster Magistrates' Court in London got an earful of shockingly foul language as lawyers and witnesses detailed what Chelsea captain John Terry said to Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand in the match.

A lip reader watching a video of the incident told the court what Terry said, including two extremely obscene words.
Terry did not deny directing a barrage of foul language at Ferdinand and referring to him as "black," but he denied engaging in racist abuse.

Britain's famous parliament clock tower is to be renamed Elizabeth Tower in honour of the queen's diamond jubilee, officials announced on Tuesday. Queen minus Philip for Jubilee concert

There was a star-studded international cast and the flag-waving fanfare of an adoring public, but it was a subdued Queen who attended a Diamond Jubilee concert in her honour, without her devoted consort.

As Prince Philip recuperated in hospital just a few kilometres away receiving treatment for a bladder infection, the Queen was a late arrival for today's concert outside the front gates of Buckingham Palace, part of the celebrations for her 60-year reign.

"The only sad thing about this evening is that my father couldn't be here with us because unfortunately he has taken unwell," Prince Charles told the crowd.
