US records the deadliest day from the coronavirus as death toll reaches 2,000 deaths in 24 hours

USA witness its deadliest 24 hours as death toll reaches 2,000 with over half a million people affected by the pandemic. This figure is alarmingly high for people are not adhering to "Stay Home - Stay Safe" slogan.

So far, almost 18,747 corona affected patients have perished in USA, only 100 lesser than Italy so far. New York state, which remains the epicenter of the US outbreak, makes up almost half of the total death toll across the whole of the US with 7,844 dead. Peak resource use for hospitals is predicted to occur on Saturday where an estimated 86,379 beds, 17,707 ICU beds and 15,414 ventilators will be needed

USA Corona Outbreak Explodes as Total Cases touche 244,000

The Corona Virus is taking a heavy toll of the USA as its corona affected patients has almost reached 244,000 over the past 24 hours, 28,969 new patients have been diagnosed with the virus, while the death toll rises to 5,883 with fresh 781 cases of deaths in the last 24 hours.

Italy though it seemed to have curtailed the virus onslaught suffered 760 more deaths and Spain saw 951 fresh cases of patients who were consumed by the virus..

France was the most badly hit country as its fresh death cases rose to 1,355. UK has also lost 569 patients in 24 hours.

As of now the total patients worldwide stand at 1,013,748 and increasing with 52,977 deaths. So far 212,015 patients have recovered while 711,058 (95%) are in Mild Condition and 37,698 (5%) are Serious or Critical.

Spain suffers record 950 coronavirus fatalities in 24 hours

Spain is one of the most corona virus country as it lost 950 people in the last 24 hours, a news report informs.

It is the largest single-day increase so far, after 849 Tuesday and 864 Wednesday, while number of new cases also rose 8,102, bringing total from 102,136 to 110,238.

Although there has been increase of The number of new cases by 8,102, it marks the lowest percentage increase in cases yet - in a sign that lockdown measures put in place almost three weeks ago are working. The rate of increase was 42.7 per cent on March 13, the day before the lockdown was put in place, and has gone as high as 200 per cent during the crisis.

100 US Sailors aboard aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt hit by coronavirus

The US Navy has announced that almost 100 sailors aboard aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt have been hit by coronavirus outbreak to quarantine in Guam hotels, where it is presently harboured. 

Acting Secretary of the Navy Thomas Modly said Wednesday that 93 sailors from the ship have tested positive for the virus to date, representing more than 10% of all cases across the entire US military. He said about 1,000 sailors have been evacuated form the ship and moved ashore to Guam where the ship is currently in port, reports CNN.

Modly said 1,273 of the ship's roughly 4,800 crew members have been tested for the virus so far and the Navy was still awaiting the results of some of those tests.

However, the ship will not be evacuated in its entirety due to the need to continue to perform essential tasks such as the operation of the aircraft carrier's nuclear reactor.

UK suffers record-breaking 563 coronavirus deaths in 24 hours

UK is bracing itself for the worst as it suffered record-breaking 563 coronavirus deaths and 4,324 cases in 24 hours. This takes total number of victims to 2,352 with almost 30,000 Britons known to be infected.

Britain now has almost three times as many dead patients on account of coronavirus as Germany despite only half as many positive tests. It may be added that UK's coronavirus death toll has soared by 1,124 in just 3 days - from 1,228 on Sunday to 2,352 on Wednesday. 

The youngest victim today was a 13-year-old, believed to be Ismail Mohamed Abdul Wahab from Brixton, London, whose tragic death came to light last night after he died at King's College Hospital on Monday. The oldest patient included in today's update was 99 years old.

The true size of the outbreak remains a mystery because of the UK's controversial policy to only test patients in hospital - and not the tens of thousands of Britons with milder symptoms who are recovering at at home.

Asia Bibi Acquitted in Blasphemy Case

In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has finally decided the long awaited case of blasphemy and has acquitted a Christian woman Asia Bibi today.

"Keeping in mind the evidence produced by the prosecution against the alleged blasphemy committed by the appellant, the prosecution has categorically failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt," concluded the chief justice.

A three bench panel further added that: "Tolerance is the basic principle of Islam and that Islam condemns injustice and oppression.

Asia Bibi was convicted for blasphemy under Section 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code for allegedly defaming Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). The offense carries the mandatory death penalty under Pakistani law.

"I can't believe what I am hearing, will I go out now? Will they let me out, really?" Bibi told AFP by phone from prison after the ruling. "I just don't know what to say, I am very happy, I can't believe it."

Commenting on the judgment Asia Bibi's lawyer Saiful Mulook told AFP: "The verdict has shown that the poor, the minorities and the lowest segments of society can get justice in this country despite its shortcomings. This is the biggest and happiest day of my life.

Asia Bibi's husband also hailed the verdict. "I am very happy. My children are very happy. We are grateful to God. We are grateful to the judges for giving us justice. We knew that she is innocent," said Ashiq Masih..

Fears for Muhammad Ali 'taken to hospital after falling unconscious'

Muhammad Ali, the Black Superman, is feared to have been taken to hospital after falling unconscious, just days after his frail appearance at a funeral for Joe Frazier on November 14.

The 69-year-old has suffered from Parkinson’s disease for 27 years and was taken to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center, according to reports from Star magazine and RadarOnline. "Strike without permission" Pakistan Army Chief tells troops

As an aftermath of NATO's strike on two Pakistani Posts Saturday and killing 24 soldiers, including a captain and a major, the Pakistan army Chief has ordered its troops to respond to any such incident in future without awaiting order from the higher chain of command.

U.S. uncertain Israel would advise before Iran strike

The top U.S. military officer told Reuters on Wednesday he did not know whether Israel would alert the United States ahead of time if it decided to take military action against Iran, reports Yahoo News.

General Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, also acknowledged differences in perspective between the United States and Israel over the best way to handle Iran and its nuclear program. Dempsey further said:

"I'm not sure the Israelis share our assessment of that. And because they don't and because to them this is an existential threat, I think probably that it's fair to say that our expectations are different right now."

UK expels Iran diplomats after embassy attack

Britain shut down the Iranian embassy in London and expelled all its staff on Wednesday, saying the storming of the British diplomatic mission in Tehran could not have taken place without some degree of consent from Iranian authorities, reports Yahoo News.
