French Open 2019: Frederer and Nadal to date in Semis on Friday

The heartbeats in Paris are getting stronger and faster as the ongoing French Open 2019 or the Roland Garros is reaching its crucial stage of semis. While Serena crashed out in the third round to make a history, men are doing pretty well without any major set back so far.

And in the first decided semi final Roger Federer and Nadal have a date to decide who moves into the final. The Federer-Nadal semi is being played on Friday. So who is going to march into finals is hard to tell for now, but most pin hopes on Nadal who feels more at home on the clay than Federer who is king of grass.

Rafael Nadal, the defending champion,  had an easy 6-1 6-1 6-3 win over Kei Nishikori in the quarter-finals, while Federer had a rather tough time of playing down fellow Swiss Stan Wawrinka in four sets.

20-times Grand Slam winner Federer is playing at Roland Garros for the first time in four years, having missed the 2016 event with a back injury and skipped the past two clay-court swings to preserve his body.

Nadal is playing his 12th semi-final at Roland Garros and has won the tournament on all of the 11 previous occasions he has reached this stage.

French Open enters into Semis with Djokovic and Serena Williams

The French Open, last Grand Slam before the Wimbledon, enters into the semis stage with Djokovic and Murray playing their semis today.

With the ouster of Nadal in very early stage who had won the title nine times, it is more likely that Djokovic will overpower Murray should the clash in the finals. But if it is Wawrinka against Djokovic, then anything can happen!!

Murray meets Stan Wawrinka in the semis today. Wawrinka was the winner of the Men's Singles in 2015. It was his second Grand Slam singles title and his first at Roland Garros.

In the women singles race, America's Serena Williams is right there despite all odds and her age, playing her semi against K. Bertens. Williams had beaten Y. Putintseva in the quarters 5-7, 6-4 and 6-1 while K. Bertens beat T. Bacsinszky 7-5 and 6-2.

It may be added that Serena Williams won the Women's Singles in 2015. It was her 20th Grand Slam singles title and her third at Roland Garros.

Defending champion Sharapova knocked out of Roland Garros

The biggest setback happened yesterday in the fourth round when the defending champion and world no.2 Russian Maria Sharapova was knocked out by 13th seeded Czech Lucie Safarova.

Much to the surprise of the Russian, the Czech proved too strong for Sharapova who lost in straight two sets 7-6, 6-4 - thus bringing any hope of the Russian dating with Serena Williams in the finals.

Serena Williams, eyeing her 20th Grand slam title was surprised in the fourth round when her fellow American Sloane Stephens  won the first set 6-1. However, Serena rebounded and won the next two sets 7-5, 6-3 to sail into the quarters.

As for the men, so far is so good as all eight top players including Djokovic, Nadal, Federer, Murray, Ferrer, Tsonga, Wawrinka and Nishikori are in the quarters.

Nadal is to face Djokovic - a tough battling match for Nadal to revive his lost glory - but Djokovic seems in no mood to giving up and may surprise Nadal in their quarterfinal duel.

Queen Maria and Cinderella Sara in mismatch final

Martina Navratilova knows a thing or two about winning grand slam titles so when she describes tomorrow's French Open final between Maria Sharapova and Sara Errani as a "bad matchup", it does not bode well for the unfancied Italian.

There is a fairy tale quality to the idea that the Cinderella Errani could gatecrash Queen Maria's Roland Garros ball, while all the indicators suggest the script is written for Sharapova to become the 10th woman to complete the career grand slam.

Is ouster of Murray from Roland Garros a blessing in disguise?

In a shock upset, David Ferrer of Spain ousted British Andy Murray out of the Roland Garros in their quarter final match Wednesday 6-4, 6-7 (3/7), 6-3, 6-2 to play against fellow Spaniard Nadal in the semi final on 8 June.

Murray
Should Murray be disheartened over his ouster? Well for many in British, he should be, but for some it is a blessing in disguise for Murray not to face the clay master Nadal in the semi final.

James Kent at Yahoo Sports contends that Andy Murray knew how hard the task would have been. But let's not forget that the Scot has also been struggling with back problems. It has been an incredible effort from the British number one to just stay in matches without retirement.
