Ecuador crumbles to US Pressure to Evict WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange

In a dramatic move on Thursday, 11 April 2019, the Ecuadorean embassy in London evicted WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who had been hiding there for the past seven years.

A bedraggled and shackled Mr. Assange, 47, was dragged out of the embassy. At a court hearing, a judge swiftly found him guilty of jumping bail, and he was detained partly in connection with an American extradition warrant.

The Ecuadorean government suspended the citizenship of Julian Assange it had granted to him and evicted him on Thursday, clearing the way for his arrest.

Julian Assange is now likely to face charges in the USA for conspiring to hack into a Pentagon computer network in 2010.

Ecuador said Wednesday it is prepared to shelter Julian Assange inside its London embassy for years if necessary as it negotiates the WikiLeaks founder's fate with Britain and Sweden.

Assange meanwhile called on the United States to halt its "persecution" of WikiLeaks and its supporters in a video link message at the UN headquarters organized by Ecuador.

Assange will spend his 100th day in the embassy on Thursday as British Foreign Secretary William Hague and Ecuador's Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino hold talks on the activist, who is wanted in Sweden for questioning on charges of sexual assault but fears eventual extradition to the United States.

Assange Loses UK Supreme Court Appeal

The long legal saga of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange takes another turn.

According to RT and other news outlets, the founder of Wikileaks has lost his appeal against extradition to Sweden, where he is due to face charges of sexual assault.

Assange has been fighting extradition in the UK for over a year, but this appears to be the end of the line.

Emmy Award winner Anthony LaPaglia will play a detective tracking a young Julian Assange in an upcoming film that focuses on the WikiLeaks founder’s early forays into Internet hacking.

Golden Globe winner Rachel Griffiths will play Assange’s activist mother. Assange himself will be played by film newcomer Alex Williams.

The made-for-TV movie is called Underground. It’s being produced by the Australian TV station Network Ten and set for global distribution through NBCUniversal.

WikiLeaks Founder Julian Assange to run for Australian Senate

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has decided to run for a seat in the Australian Senate, WikiLeaks announced on its Twitter page Saturday.

The group, which facilitates the anonymous leaking of secret information, said it discovered it is possible for Assange to run while living in England under house arrest. Assange was born in Australia and grew up there.

Since the summer of 2010, he has become a household name and a pop culture fixture. He's an internationally controversial figure who has cast himself as a champion of free speech by distributing classified documents.

Twitter Ordered To Hand Over WikiLeaks Supporters’ Account Information

Twitter has to provide the U.S. Department of Justice with all account information for three users who allegedly support WikiLeaks, a federal judge ordered on Wednesday.

U.S. District Judge Liam O’Grady denied a motion to suspend previous orders that would allow the DOJ access to the Twitter account information of three people who are suspected of having ties to WikiLeaks.

US Wikileaks suspect lawyer claims bias

A military officer overseeing the hearing of the US Army analyst accused of leaking government secrets has rejected a request to recuse himself.

The request was made by a defence lawyer for Private Bradley Manning, 23, as he appeared at a military court.

He faces 22 charges of obtaining and distributing government secrets - which he allegedly leaked to anti-secrecy site Wikileaks.

The Article 32 hearing will determine whether Pte Manning is to stand trial.

Assange wins right to ask for top court hearing

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has secured the right to ask Britain’s supreme court to hear his case, prolonging his stay in Britain.

Swedish authorities want to question the 40-year-old Australian who is fighting extradition to the Scandinavian country over accusations of rape and sexual assault made by two female former WikiLeaks volunteers in August 2010. Assange denies wrongdoing.

WikiLeaks wins Australian journalism award

WikiLeaks has been recognised in Australia for its “outstanding contribution to journalism”, with founder Julian Assange lashing out at “cowardly” Prime Minister Julia Gillard in an acceptance speech.

“WikiLeaks applied new technology to penetrate the inner workings of government to reveal an avalanche of inconvenient truths in a global publishing coup,” the Walkley trustees said in bestowing the award Sunday evening.
