Delhi rapist says the girl shouldn't have fought back

Three years after the famous Delhi Bus rape case, the accused show no remorse for what they did and even are of the opinion that the girl should not have resisted while she was being raped.

Such are the chilling facts that were narrated to British film producer Leslee Udwin, who spoke to one of the rapists on death row while spending two years making a film about the case.

Even the driver, who is also implicated in the case said: "A decent girl won't roam around at nine o'clock at night. A girl is far more responsible for rape than a boy."

It may be recalled that on 16 December 2012, the 23-year-old woman had been to see a film, the Life of Pi, with a male friend. At 8.30pm they boarded an off-duty bus, with six men on board, five adults and a juvenile. The men beat the friend and each raped the woman in turn, before assaulting her viciously with an iron instrument.

Leslee Udwin's film, India's Daughter, will be broadcast on Storyville on BBC Four on Sunday 8 March at 22:00 GMT. It will be shown in India on NDTV at 21:00 local time.

Afghan presidential palace attacked in Kabul

Smoke billowing after the attack

It has been reported by BBC that militants have attacked the Afghan presidential palace and government buildings in Kabul.

The Taliban said they carried out the assault.

More than half a dozen explosions were heard as they clashed with security personnel at the palace's eastern gate, the defence ministry and a CIA station.

However, the police claims that all of the attackers were killed.

The militants initially targeted the palace's eastern gate - a few hundred metres from the actual building - where dozens of journalists had gathered for a news conference with Mr Karzai scheduled for 09:00.

Cyprus Banks Reopen Thursday after Ten Days of Closure

After a closure of ten days, banks in Cyprus are to reopen on Thursday at 10:00 GMT. The banks were closed to prevent a bank run as a controversial bailout was negotiated.

The announcement comes after several false announcements of when bank customers would be able to access their funds. But now it seems to be real as it comes from Cypriot central bank's Aliki Stylianou who said Wednesday:
"I am telling you that all banks are definitely going to open tomorrow."

Banks will open their doors between noon and 18:00 local time (10:00-16:00 GMT), the Cypriot central bank said. The announcement comes after Bank of Cyprus head was sacked.

Customers will also be limited to withdrawing 300 euros ($383 / £253) a day, to prevent everyone fleeing with their savings.

Lord Patten not quitting BBC in wake of Newsnight shambles

Lord Patten has said that Mr Entwistle, who dramatically resigned last night, had been "destroyed" by the botched Newsnight investigation which wrongly implicated a senior former Tory in a child abuse scandal.
However, he made clear that he would resist calls to follow suit, insisting his job was to ensure the BBC learned the lessons from what happened and from the inquiries under way into the Jimmy Savile child abuse scandal.

"I think that I now have to make sure that, in the interests of the licence fee payer and the audience, that the BBC has a grip, that we get ourselves back onto the road," he told BBC1's Andrew Marr Show.

Scientists find new insight into our ability to walk

Scientists have obtained a fascinating new insight into the evolution of humans and our ability to walk. It comes from the fossilized bones of a foot that were discovered in Ethiopia and dated to be 3.4 million years old.

The researchers say they do not have enough remains to identify the species of hominin, or human ancestor, from which the right foot came. But they tell Nature journal that just the shape of the bones shows the creature could walk upright at times.

The fossil haul consists of eight elements from the forefoot - bones such as metatarsals and phalanges. The specimens were pulled from clay sediments at Burtele in the central Afar region, about 520km north-east of the capital Addis Ababa.
