Chelsea beat Liverpool to play Capital One Cup Final

The match between Chelsea and Liverpool remained indecisive in full 90 minutes at Samford Bridge yesterday and went well into the extra time when Branislav Ivanovic scored the winning goal for the Blues in the 94th minute to take his team to the capital One Cup final.

The final of the Capital One Cup is being played at Wembly - where the Blues will now face either the Spurs or the Sheff Utd on 1 March.

It may be added that Chelsea were favourites after a 1-1 draw at Anfield in the first leg - but Liverpool were true to the word of manager Brendan Rodgers and played without fear, seeking their first trophy since winning this competition in 2012.

Terry cleared of racial abuse charge

Chelsea captain John Terry was cleared of racially abusing an opponent during a Premier League match after one of the most high-profile trials involving a football player.

The case led to Terry being stripped of the England captaincy by the Football Association ahead of the European Championship and the departure of coach Fabio Capello who disagreed with the decision.

But after hearing four days of evidence at a London court, chief magistrate Howard Riddle found he was not convinced that Terry had committed a racially aggravated public order offence in a confrontation with Queens Park Rangers player Anton Ferdinand during the match in October.

The England and Chelsea defender was acquitted of calling Ferdinand a "fucking black c**t" during a Premier League game at QPR on Oct 23 last year.

Chelsea owner obsessed with jewel of club football

Roman Abramovich's relentless pursuit of the Champions League did not start as an obsession but it has grown into one.
Chelsea owner Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich
Such is the Russian billionaire's burning desire to win what Jose Mourinho vividly described as the "beautiful trophy with the big ears" that he even stayed away from the unforgettable second leg of the semi-final away to Barcelona.
Abramovich has missed big Champions League nights before, often through business, his private commitments or even through disenchantment - especially when the fractious Mourinho was at the club - but he avoided the Nou Camp because he feared his presence might jinx Chelsea's chances of progressing.

Roberto Di Matteo says no plans to meet Chelsea hierarchy

Roberto Di Matteo has admitted he has no plans to meet with the Chelsea hierarchy to discuss his future.

The interim first-team coach oversaw his side's final day Premier League victory over Blackburn Rovers in what could be his last game in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Di Matteo will lead the club into their meeting with Bayern Munich in the Champions League final at the Allianz Arena on May 19th.
Club officials have always maintained they will not decide on a permanent successor to Andre Villas-Boas until after the end of the season but Di Matteo does not believe his chances of landing the job hinge on the outcome of the Bayern clash.

Chelsea keeping tabs on £30m Real striker Higuain

Chelsea are preparing a £30million bid to land Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain.

Manager Andre Villas-Boas is short of options in attack after selling Nicolas Anelka earlier this month, while Ivory Coast international Dider Drogba will leave to play in the African Cup of Nations next month.

The future of Fernando Torres also remains unclear. Torres, who signed for the west London club in a £50m deal in January, could be sold when the transfer window re-opens next month.

China's Shanghai Shenhua Sign Up with French Star Anelka

China’s graft-addled Super League sank so low it was pulled from national TV, but the signing of French star Nicolas Anelka highlights a gold rush that could finally drag Chinese soccer out of the mire.

Anelka’s two-year deal with Shanghai Shenhua, who finished in the lower half of the table last season, comes just a year after the Super League’s nadir when a major match-fixing crackdown left senior officials facing jail.

Shanghai’s benefactor is colourful industrialist Zhu Jun, who tried to hire Argentina legend Diego Maradona as a coach and once said he had launched a bid for Liverpool, according to reports.
