Churches in Sri Lanka Bombed - Over 150 reported dead

A very sad day indeed in the history of Sri Lanka when a series of explosions rocked hotels and churches of Sri Lanka, jam packed with tourists. The incident happened when the Christian community was celebrating the Easter on Sunday.

Two more bomb explosions struck Colombo, the capital city hours after the country was struck by a series of six bombings on churches and hotels that killed at least 156 people and wounded about 400.

Most of the victims were killed in three churches where worshipers were attending Easter Sunday services.

The seventh explosions occurred at a hotel near the national zoo in the capital, killing at least two more people, police said, while an eighth blast hit the suburb of Orugodawatta in the north of Colombo.

West Indies outscores Sri Lanka to win T20I Cricket World Cup

West Indies did it after 30 years this Sunday evening today - they beat hosts Sri Lanka by a big margin of 36 runs to win the ICC T20I Cricket World Cup played at Colombo.

Although West Indies started with a debacle, with two of its ace peners going home for just three runs, Charles for duck and Gayle for 3, the team did manage a comfortable target of 138 to the hosts Islanders. Coming to bat, Sri Lanka was loser on every account and could hardly manage 101 runs before being sent back to pavillion right in front of the sad and morose home crowd and the president.

The victory won by the West Indies bring back joy to the Caribbeans who waited for this honour for good about thirty years.

Who wins today is a difficult question. But Sri Lanka and the West Indies have met four times in T20Is, with Sri Lanka winning every time......

Sri Lanka beat Pakistan to qualify for ICC T20I final

Well, the Islanders did it - and did it superbly, beating Pakistan by 16 runs and stormed into the ICC T20I World Cup final.

Winning the toss, the Sri Lankans decided to bat first. But were restricted by the Pakistani bowlers to give any meaningful target till the last two overs, when they were in the 120s range. But thereafter, the hit hard and played aggressively to take the score to 139, giving a target of 140 to Pakistan. Jayawardne was the most successful batsman who scored 42 till he was bowled by Afridi.

Coming to bat, Pakistan's batsmen did not look like playing for an entry into the final - and even the Islanders bowlers did not let them do so either. Except for captain Hafeez who added 42, followed by 29 by Umar Akmal and 20 by Imran, none of the batsmen could stand in front of aggressive Sri Lankan bowlers.

Pakistan beat South Africa by Two Wickets in Super Eights match of ICC T20I

Those who saw the ICC T20I cricket match between Pakistan and South Africa Friday today at Colombo, Sri Lanka would remember it for their lives, for it was such a hair raising match that came to be finished by a combination of a lone warrior from batting side and the bowlers.

The Umers Square: Umer Akmal (left) and Umer Gul (right) brought victory yo Pakistan

Having restricted the South Africans to mere 131 runs, Pakistan looked confidant to chase the target comfortable and with much ease. And they started off pretty well, till Imran Nazir was caught fro 14. And from then on, there was no ending. The uncertain batsmen crumbled one after the other and at the start of 12 th over, most of the Pakistan batting order had crumbled for 63/5. And then came Afridi, who everyone thought would play for victory. But he lived to his traditional uncertainity and was caugth just in front of the ropes for a big ZERO.

It was in the 14th over that Umar Gul joined Umar Akmal when Pakistan was down 76/7 and everyone in the arena was getting up to leave, and perhaps so many viewers watching TV too. But then both Umer combination clicked. Umer Gul hit three mighty sixes to bring life and sensation to a losing match for Pakistan. Umer Gul's valuable 32 runs by the end of 19th over had brought total to 125/8.

The last over saw another six from Akmal and an unbelievable four from Saeed Ajmal that brought victory to Pakistan. What a sensational ending and what a superb performance by Umar Akmal and Gul that made the difference. Pakistan won by two wickets with just two balls remaining.

Naturally, Gul deserved to be the man of the match who took out Pakistan from a crisis situation by his magnifiencet performance. "I must thank to my coach. I told Akmal that we should stay at the crease, the flick is my favourite shot," said Gul afterwards.

But for the remaining matches, Pakistan batsmen need to play responsibly lest their uncertain performance harm Pakistan.
