Lost Polar Bear walks past Whitehall

You won't believe this but it actually happened - a big white polar bear wandered around London and even walked past the smartly turned guards of the Whitehall - harmlessly.

The Arctic animal shocked tourists and passers-by as well as the Household Calvary by lingering between the capital's iconic red phone boxes and strolling casually past the Houses of Parliament.

But this was not simply a stray who had wandered too far from home - it was a puppet commissioned as part of a global Greenpeace campaign to protect the freezing North.

Greenpeace activists storm nuclear power station in France

Environmental activists have broken into a French nuclear power station, to highlight the "vulnerability" of atomic sites in France.

Greenpeace campaigners entered the site at Nogent-sur-Seine, 60 miles (95km) south-east of Paris, before dawn. The activists climbed on top of a reactor building and unfurled a banner, said a Greenpeace spokesman.
