Relatives of Lt Moaz al-Kasasbeh ask the government for release of the pilot

The gruesome act of the IS by beheading the Japanese captive has forced Jordan to swap over its pilot with an Iraqi prisoner.

The pilot, Lt Moaz al-Kasasbeh, was captured when his plane came down in December on a mission to support the US-led, anti-IS military coalition.

Government spokesman Mohammed al-Momeni told the official Petra news agency the administration was doing "everything it can to save the life and secure the release of its pilot".

Co-Pilot goes to sleep mid air while captain leaves for lavatory

A disaster could have taken place mid air when the captain of low-cost Dutch airline Transavia  went out the toilet leaving the plane to the first officer.

However, when returned, and tried the intercom to ask the first officer open the cockpit door, he received no answer. When he finally managed to open the door, he found it to his horror that the first officer was fast asleep on his seat.

Although in the incident happened in September, it was only made public yesterday by the Dutch safety board (OVV) in a report published on its website. 

The body called it a 'serious' incident.

This is mainly because of the new rules by the EU. For instance, UK pilots can currently go up to 18 hours without sleep - but more than four out of ten pilots already report nodding off in-flight - of whom a third awoke to find their co-pilot also asleep.

U.S. helicopter pilot sings 'Bye, bye Miss American Pie' as his missile strike blasts an Afghan man to pieces

It is the horrific moment an Afghan man is blown apart by a US missile.

But in a moment of twisted inspiration an American helicopter pilot decided to give it a impromptu soundtrack - by singing ‘Bye, bye Miss American pie.’

He belted out the most famous line of the Don McLean classic at the moment of impact when a fireball consumed at least one man.

According to the caption the victims were ‘innocent farms planting poppy seeds in the middle of the road,’ although that has not been verified.  The weapon used on them was supposedly a one kilogram Hellfire missile.

Syrian fighter pilot along with MiG-21 defects to Jordan

A Syrian air Force pilot, Col Hassan Mirei al-Hamadeh, along with his MiG-21 Soviet built aircraft defected to Jordan and landed at the King Hussein Air Base in Mafraq, close to the Syrian border, Thursday 21 June.

The pilot has asked for asylum on humanitarian grunds, as the colonel would be tortured or killed if he returned home.

A Jordanian security source said the pilot had flown from al-Dumair military airport, north-east of Damascus.
