Apple Making Radical Change Attract New iPhone Users

Apple is getting serious about trying to dominate the prepaid phone market.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Sprint's Virgin Mobile will start selling a prepaid iPhone on July 1, making it the second carrier in the United States to do so and the first carrier with national reach.
Cricket Communications announced last week that it would start selling prepaid iPhones on June 22.
Apple's partnership with Sprint will likely do much more to expand the iPhone's reach. As the Journal points out, Cricket is a regional network that covers just 60 million people while Virgin Mobile is national and covers 278 million people.

HTC’s Anti-Apple Strategy Wins US Smartphone Market


While Apple is making headlines after its release of iPhone 4S cashing on the death of Steve Jobs' death, HTC has become the top seller of smartphones in the U.S. with a strategy that’s precisely the opposite of Apple Inc.’s. Where Apple is secretive, HTC is open, reports Bloomberg Businessweek. 

Steve Elfman, Sprint’s president of network operations, said in an interview:
“HTC will make products for you. We certainly don’t do design work on Apple products.”
