Turkey to Upgrade Pakistan Navy's Agosta Attack Submarines

In a mutual defence agreement between Pakistan and Turkey, a Turkish defense contractor will upgrade the second of three Agosta 90B submarines in service with the Pakistan Navy.

As reported, Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik ve Ticaret A.Ş. (STM), a Turkish state-owned defense contractor,  has won a contract for the mid-life upgrade of the second of three Agosta 90B-class (aka Khalid-class) diesel-electric attack submarines equipped with air-independent propulsion systems, currently in service with the Pakistan Navy.

The upgrade also includes installation of a Sharp Eye low probability-of-intercept (LPI) radar system aboard the PNS Saad. Additionally, “under the project, STM will make modifications on the pressure hull, the most critical structure in a submarine.”

It may be added that the three Agosta 90B attack submarines were acquired by Pakistan Navy between 1999 and 2008 from France.

India's £10 billion plan for new warships and submarines may force Britain to axe financial aid to India

Indian prime minister standing against a failed fighter jet project Teja

India is a poor country where millions go hungry every night. But it is still going ahead with a whooping £10 billion plan to induct new planes and submarines to flex its muscles.

The plan will bolster Indian navy with seven frigates and six nuclear submarines. This goes in line with the new but aggressive Indian prime minister who wants to have a strong military for two-front war with Pakistan and China.

However, the British MPs think that the Indian lavish spending should call for a 'stop dolling tax payers' money to feed India's hungry mouths.

Tory MP Peter Bone said last night: ‘This is why we should not be giving any aid to India. It was not aid that brought India out of poverty but trade. Aid is just a sticking plaster.’ Andrew Rosindell, Tory MP for Romford, said: ‘It is clear that India is becoming a wealthy country if it is able to spend such a colossal amount on its military.'
