Auction of Holocaust Death Camps Souvenirs causes Outrage

Among dozens of sick souvenirs on offer last week was a striped uniform thought to have belonged to a Polish baker

Online auction site eBay has put on auction souvenirs related to the death camp holocaust victims that include the clothes of concentration camp victims. Among dozens of sick souvenirs on offer last week was a striped uniform thought to have belonged to a Polish baker who died in Auschwitz, which was on sale for £11,200.

However, the auction is  facing an international storm of outrage after it was revealed to be profiting from the repulsive trade in Holocaust memorabilia.

The striped uniform is one of dozens of offensive items uncovered by a Mail on Sunday investigation. And within hours of being alerted to the item by this newspaper, eBay removed it from sale after conducting an ‘urgent investigation’.

Later, The internet giant apologised and vowed to give £25,000 to a suitable charity, before removing more than 30 other death camp souvenirs which it said had evaded its strict vetting process.

Olympic torches in eBay fire sale

LONDON Olympic flame carriers have already begun offering their prized torches on eBay, just hours after taking part in the relay.

Andrew Bell, 32, was among the first entrusted with the iconic emblem as it began its 12,875km trip across Britain ahead of the Games.

Yet he tried to cash in on the once-in-a-lifetime honour by putting the torch and his Olympic outfit up for sale soon afterward, The Sun reported.

And at least four others have followed him, some advertising their torches and apparel before taking part in the procession.

PayPal 'Forced' eBay Buyer to Destroy Antique Violin

[ via Huffington Post ] 5 Jan

An eBayer endured a “heartbreaking” experience after claiming PayPal made a buyer destroy her $2,500 violin because it was deemed “counterfeit”.
The owner, named only as Erica, made the sale to a buyer in Canada, who requested a refund, having disputed the authenticity label.
According to Erica: “This is not uncommon. In the violin market, labels often mean little and there is often disagreement over them. Some of the most expensive violins in the world have disputed labels, but they are works of art nonetheless.”

In order to get his money back, Erica claims the buyer was ordered by PayPal to destroy the instrument – which bore the label -Bourguignon Maurice - and send a photograph as proof.

Saddam Hussein’s Dinnerware Illegally Displayed at Art Exhibition at NYC Restaurant

[ via Yahoo News ] 15 Dec

Officials in New York have returned to Iraqi diplomats dinnerware once belonging to Saddam Hussein and the family of King Faisal II that was looted, then illegally imported to the United States and sold on eBay.

Nineteen dinner and salad plates, some which contained the official seal of Iraq, were being used at the Park Avenue Autumn restaurant as part of an art exhibit. The plates, officials say, were returned to Iraqi representatives at the United Nations on Tuesday.

The items are just a few among a large collection of artifacts that were stolen from Baghdad palaces and museums when U.S. tanks rumbled into the country's capital back in early 2003.
