Facebook Selects Swedish City for its Data Centre

Full Story: Dawn

The thriving and most liked and used social media network Facebook has confirmed Thursday that it is going out of the USA for the first time to establish its data centre in Swedish city of Lulea.

The reason behind the decision is quoted to be the cold climate to keep the servers cool, at lesser costs than in warmer US cities. The access to cheap renewable energy from the hydro-power facilities is the next consideration.

The Lulea data center is likely to be commissioned in 2014.
