Afghan President Karzai in an interview on private TV channel Saturday, Oct. 22,

After sharp reaction from the West, Afghan president Karzai has distanced him from the remarks it made a few days ago about "close and friendly relations" between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Karzai, in an exclusive interview on a private TV channel in Pakistan Saturday had said that God forbid, If any time war erupts between Pakistan and America, Afghanistan will side with Pakistan."  The comments had raised eyebrows among Western officials in Kabul allied to the 10-year campaign to keep the Taliban from returning to power. And Karzai's backtracking from his remarks can well be understood.
