Surrogate Mother hit with $217,000 Medical Bill After Austrian Parents Flee with Twins

We hear of fraud cases normally in the poor third world countries. But what do you say when a surrogate mother delivers twin for an Austrian pair in USA, who flee with twin kids the mother gave birth to and not paying the bills and her fee? This is exactly what happened to Carrie Mathews, who nearly died of complications while delivering the twins for Rudolf and Teresa Bako, the Austrian couple.

Now the devastated surrogate mother has been served with a whooping $217,000 medical bills as the couple has fled to Austria. This has taken place despite an extensive contract between the families. While the health care officials are asking Mathews to pay the bills, the Austrian couple denies paying anything to her.
