US 'will cut' Afghan role in 2013

The US is likely to cut down combat operations in Afghanistan during 2013, more than a year before a deadline for withdrawal, the defence secretary says.
The news was broken by Leon Panetta who said that the US hoped to switch to a role training and supporting Afghan forces.
There are currently some 99,000 US troops in the country, with 22,000 scheduled to return home during this year.
