Several American businesses reacted to the news of President Obama’s re-election with both anger and despair, as one McDonald’s location hung the Stars and Stripes upside-down and at half-mast.

Some diners at the Follansbee, West Virginia, restaurant could not believe their eyes when the say the flag on the day after Obama secured more electoral votes than Republican rival Mitt Romney.

An upside-down flag is a 'signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property,' according to federal law.

Olympic chiefs ban all food retailers at all game venues from selling chips pressurized by McDonald's

Olympic chiefs have banned all 800 food retailers at the 40 Games venues across Britain from dishing up chips because of 'sponsorship obligations.'

Hundreds of food outlets at Olympic venues have been forced to take chips off the menu

The only loophole in the agreement, announced in a memo to staff, is that chips can be served with fish - safeguarding Britain's most famous dish.

But is seems the bosses have predicted an outrage about the decision, emphasising that the move was not backed by the food retailers. 

The memo reads: 'Due to sponsorship obligations with McDonalds, Locog have instructed the catering team they are no longer allowed to serve chips on their own anywhere within the Olympic park.

Big Mac! World's biggest McDonald's with 1,500 seats to be built for games

The biggest McDonald's restaurant in the world will open for six weeks during the London 2012 Olympic games.

More than 50,000 Big Mac burgers and 180,000 portions of fries will be served from the outlet in Stratford, east London.

The huge temporary branch will have seating for 1,500 customers and will employ more than 2,000 staff.
